Any recommendations on West Coast disney Cruises?

We just got home today lol We drove up to Anaheim after getting off the ship in San Diego and went to Disneyland for 3 days. Now we are home, exhausted. Will be starting my trip report in the next day or two for sure so stay tuned!! Although it's my first TR and I have no idea how to make links or anything.....eep!

I look forward to it, feel free to give me a shout if you need any technical assistance ;)

Being from SoCal I've done the following Disney Cruises... Vancouver to San Diego, Mexican Riviera, Cruise to Nowhere and the Pixar Cruise. I enjoyed them all with the exception of the cruise to nowhere, which was too crowded for me. My favorite cruise was the Pixar Cruise but I have no idea if that cruise would ever come back (I wish it would). I also enjoyed the Mexican Riviera and the weather but the ports where so-so. The Vancouver cruise was also nice and I enjoy those ports a little more than Mexican Riviera I only wish it was warmer weather and included a stop in San Francisco. Once my schedule permits I will most likely book a Disney Cruise from San Diego to Vancouver.

We just got off the 3 night Baja and we are also booked on the 5 night May San Diego to Vancouver. I can tell you that 3 nights just isn't enough. We had a great time, but I made the mistake of trying to do way too much. By the 3rd day I finally came to my senses and we slowed down & really had a great day. We're very much looking forward to 5 nights in May! Also, we stayed at the Wyndham in San Diego in a bay view room. I booked it through Expedia. With taxes it came out to $132 (excluding parking). The bay view room was absolutely worth it. Waking up that morning to see The Wonder right outside our window was the perfect way to start our trip. I would also recommend going to http://www.sandiegocruiseshipparking.com/ and booking your parking. I prepaid for self parking, but ended up opting for valet. It was worth the extra $. We plan on doing this exact thing when we go in May.

We just did the northbound San Diego to Vancouver cruise in May and we really enjoyed it. I am a big fan of sea days, San Diego and San Francisco so it was perfect for us.. and it was my birthday! I I totally agree with disnygril55 about the weather. It is definitely not the same as a cruise to the caribbean so be prepared for colder temps as you head up north. However, they provide blankets on deck and it wasn't cold enough to keep the kids out of the pool. Really, most everything we did was inside and the climate is controlled so we still wore shorts every day. The weather in San Francisco was cool but I got by with a sweater and jeans and my boys wore hoodies with their shorts.

I think that particular itinerary is worth doing just for the experience of sailing underneath the Golden Gate Bridge. They time it so you are going under right at sunrise and it's pretty amazing. Then you dock at Pier 35 which is right in the middle of the city so there is a TON to do in walking distance. We decided to do Alcatraz and my boys (11 & 13) loved it. If you do Alcatraz, plan it early in the day so you have the rest of the day free to tour around. We were scheduled for 1:00 and it made it hard to plan anything else. When we got off the ship, We walked to Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf, and just took in the sights. Afterwards, we doubled back for our Alcatraz tour. We have been to San Francisco before so we returned to the ship after our tour so we could see the premiere of Tomorrowland. However, all aboard was pushed back until 2:45 a.m. for those who wanted to enjoy some of the night life which I am sure a lot of people appreciated. (It was supposed to be 9:45 p.m.)

If you choose this itinerary, I suggest getting a cabin with a balcony because it is early in the morning and you may not want to get dressed up to go out and watch as you go under the bridge. It takes awhile so we ordered room service and let the kids sleep a little longer and we woke them up as we got closer to the bridge. Also our room was on the port side so we could not see the city as we entered the harbor. I think the view all around would be better on the starboard side because they did not back in when they got to port. Though, I can't complain too much because sailing under the bridge was awesome no matter which side you are on! Sailing in to Vancouver was pretty neat, too. We did like the port side of the ship for that because we could watch all of the seaplanes take off. There was also a gas station in the middle of the water which we thought was pretty cool.

I wish they had more itineraries out of California. We have also done the Mexican Riviera cruise which we really enjoyed. It doesn't seem like that itinerary is offered much anymore but if you get the chance, it's a good one, too. Especially if you prefer the warmer temps.

And I would definitely recommend the northbound over the southbound because I think anything less than 5 days is too short! But that's just my opinion.
