my computer has been running slow for a while, i've got a load of hard drive space left so thats not the issue, but just wondering why.
i've got a virus scan on here, but its not a current one (few years old) and have also ran a malware scan and nothing there.
does anyone know of any good freeware spyware scans available? i dont want to have to pay if i can avoid it!

I use Super Anti Spyware & Microsoft Security Essentials

Both are free. My dad's friend is very good with computers & he told me not to renew McAfee, just use the Microsoft one as its just as good! it can make things a bit slow whilst its updating but apart from that now problems

Ive always used AVG Grisoft, had it about 6 years now, its free, runs a daily scan, and has managed to capture and get rid of two nasty trojans on my computer so Im very pleased with it.

If you go for it, make sure you click the free version on the page and not the deluxe version which you have to pay for.

I agree AVG is excellent, I've been using it for years and never had any problems.

Just make sure you uninstall the old anti virus first before installing the new one otherwise you will have all kinds of problems.

I also use AVG free version and run C Cleaner every now and again, its free too

I used to use the free AVG software but now use free Avast anti-virus.

I'm a convert to Microsoft security essentials over the past year or so - i used to use avg before that but prefer the microsoft one now.

For Anti Virus software i use Avast. I work in my companies IT dept and we recommend it to all of our colleagues for their home PC's.I also run Spybot frequently on my machine to pickup any malware/spyware thats on there! It always picks up plenty :)

Although you have plenty of HD space, your disk may benefit from a Defrag which will re-arrange things on your drive to make things run faster. :)

Super Anti-Spyware is very good for a free program. Avira is also very good for a free anti-virus. I use Prevx for malware/spyware and it is fantastic, although not free.
