Any Recent Reports on AKL???

I'll be there in a week and I'm just wondering how the construction is going. Are they booking people into all rooms at this point, or are the rooms on the left side of the lodge completely closed? Just wondering if they have many people actually staying there or a percentage of normal capacity. Is anyone getting complementary upgrades lately (maybe not since there are fewer Savannah view rooms available). Are the main public viewing areas still open?

I would be interested to see replies to this as we are flying out to POR in just over 2 weeks for 1 week then onto AKL for our 2nd week.

Hoping all is well as we have Savannah view booked.:confused3

Sounds wonderful... I wish I could stay longer this trip, but I'm pulling my son out of Kindergarten after starting only 2-1/2 weeks prior... hehehe.

Anyone???

Does anyone know if they are using the rooms on the Sunset Savannah as Standard view rooms or if they're not being used at all???

Well, I guess no reports. I've got four more days to wait for news... then I'll be there to experience it for myself. I just wish I could get a little information ahead of time...

Max and I will be there tomorrow!!! Anyone care to share their recent experiences before we leave home???

My DDs are there now. They are in a Savannah view room on the Zebra trail, overlooking the Uzima Savannah. They said that construction is on the other side of the resort and they are having no issues. They also said that the nicest people at Disney work at AKL and they are having a lovely stay.
They've been there since Sunday the 9th and fly home tomorrow.

Hope this helps some of you!

I was there on SEpt. 4-10 and had a great time. We did not hear or see any construction while we were there. We had a savannah view room on the 2nd floor. No love bugs either!!

Well, Max and I are back... so sad to be home again!!! We had a wonderful stay and I wanted to report back. We heard absolutely no construction noise. We had just booked a Standard View room this year becuase I was trying to make the trip as cheap as possible (but still be able to stay where we love to be!) and we were upgraded to a pool view. I must admit that I missed the Savanna View room a little - although our room was in a great spot and we still had a very nice view. The pool was great, lines in the Mara were very minimal, breakfast at Boma was slightly disappointing - it has always been a favorite, and it still is really, but our server was so rushed I don't think she even stopped moving as she zipped by our table. Check-in was quick considering that the computers had just been down and came up just before I was helped. Bus service was excellent. We used Simba's Cubhouse and Max had a fabulous time there - I had a good time in the Magic Kingdom riding everything I wanted too! We used package delivery and pickup at Zawadi Marketplace was quick and easy - we made several other purchases there as well and rarely had to wait in any line, if there was ever a line it was just one person in front of us. We did night vision, played some pool games, visited a really nice CM out on the Arusha Rock Savanna area, and much more. We didn't participate much in the activities becuase we spent most of our time in the parks or in the pool if we were back at the hotel for a break. We had a fantastic time and I can't wait to go again. We didn't book the bounceback offer though, but I think if we can afford a trip next year we'll be going again.

Thanks for posting about your trip Wendi! We're going to be there on oct.22 for two nights and have never stayed (surprise for DH for his 40th!) I only booked a standard view as it was the cheapest of the AP rates. Your comments made me happy with my choice!

Great review Wendi! I just booked a surprise Christmas trip and it will be our first time at AKL. I booked standard AP rate, which is all that was available, and I've been wondering what it will be like.

Glad you had a good time, Wendi. Looks like your trip was just you and your son. This upcoming trip is just me and my 2 youngest kids. This will be our first time at AKL. I booked a pool view room. I never get any luck with upgrades...lol.

When do they offer all of these activities at the AKL? We're getting in late on our arrival day and need to find something to do at the resort.

We visited AKL last week, since we just bought into DVC there. The common areas all looked open. One issue is that we hoped to have a nice big lunch using our last free table service, but you can't get table service at lunch in AKL! WE were able to convert them to counter service at Maras. The manager threw in a few extra goodies to compensate for the difference in price.

Just an FYI if you are going soon.

We just returned from AKL Monday night. Our room was on Kudu Trail facing the sunset savanna. Our view had a lot of orange construction fencing and construction equipment. They start out there VERY early in the morning. I will try to post a full review with pics later today or tomorrow.

Was your room a savanna view or another category? I hope you didn't pay for a savanna and have to look at construction vehicles:confused3
Heading down there in January, so I am curious. Looking forward to the pics.
Thanks
