Has anyone dined at Skipper Canteen in the past 6 months or so???
Interested to hear your comment on the following dishes:
- fried whole fish
- shiriki noodle salad
- vege curry stew
- Thai noodles...

Thank you!

We ate at Skipper canteen 2 weeks ago. DH had the Thai noodles. He said it was good, not great. It was a little spicy but not overly so. We found the service to be adequate but not great. The service was better last year.

We are big Skippers fans and go pretty much on every trip. We've found that appetizers are what they do best so that is generally what we stick to and just order a bunch to share. So of what you listed, we really enjoy the noodle salad. Its fairly sizable and has tons of fresh veggies in it. My brother had the vegetable stew on a recent trip and enjoyed it. The flavor was good, but they used odd knife cuts so the vegetables are all different sizes.

We ate there for the first time last weekend and really liked it!

I had the vegetable curry and it was delicious. A lot of times, veggie items are just full of peppers and onions (2 things I don't eat) so I was thrilled that this was a bowl of vegetables I actually like!

Service was odd in the room we were in. There were only 5 occupied tables and every table had a different waiter. So it wasn't like I could grab my waiter for a refill when she was bringing something out to another table - I had to wait until she wandered in to check on us. I'm assuming they all had tables in other rooms because none of them frequented our room often. It was a strange. When she did wander through, she was in character (as were the waiters on either side of us). So service was adequate but not great and I think that's partially due to how they lay out the waitstaff tables.

I visit MK fairly often and don't love the food choices so I usually just eat at Plaza or a resort hotel but I've added this one to the list!

We were there in April. The food was really good as usual. We were in the library and agree with pp, the service was not its usually caliber. Our server was good, but did not have the interaction or bad jokes that our previous servers have had. It was more like a regular restaurant. Not that it was bad, just not what were expecting or hoping for based on multiple visits. We will try it again this fall. maybe it was just an off night or server.

DH and I just returned from our trip to Disney. We actually ate at the skipper canteen two of our four days visiting the Magic Kingdom. Both meals were excellent. DH did order the whole fried fish for one of his lunch entrees. It was delicious and he will order it again when we return next year. I ordered the shiriki noodle salad as an appetizer and could have easily made it my meal. It was very flavorful without being over the top. Again it will be ordered again. We love eating at this restaurant. It’s definitely a hidden gem.

We (myself, DW, DD10 and DD6) went to Skippers the night of a MVMCP this past November and enjoyed it. I ordered the veg curry stew, and my waitress told me I could add a protein, so I added chicken. I enjoyed it (the chicken was just sort of laid on top - not incorporated into the stew at all). DW ordered a lamb dish and very much enjoyed. DD6 ordered something of the kid's menu and liked whatever it was (sorry, don't recall). DD10 wasn't loving the menu options (kid or adult) and so ordered some potstickers as her meal. I would say the food overall was good (especially by MK standards) and the restaurant itself was interesting, so we were happy we tried it.

Not a huge fan I must admit, we really wanted to like it but the portions are inconsistent. A friend of my son's had the pork dish and he received 3 tiny little strips of pork, yet the table next us, we could clearly see had much bigger pieces. Our vegetarian wasn't overjoyed with her dish either, she said the dish didnt come together, just stuff thrown on a plate. The appetizers don't excite any of us., so it's a no for now, if they change the menu maybe give it another try. For the price, there are better restaurants.

We have eaten here on three occasions; the first two times it was great - food on point, wonderful & hilarious skippers who really made the meal special. Last visit in late April, service was ridiculously slow, skipper was unenthusiastic and didn't crack any jokes at all, and forgot part of our order. Food was also not as good as previous visits - the cachapas app and quicksand dessert were still really good, but our fried chicken was way too salty and didn't seem very fresh. I would try it if you've never been, since it could have just been an off night. Sorry I can't comment on the dishes you mentioned.

Hit or miss imo. I went in Jan. 2017 and had awful service, but the vegetable curry was phenomenal! My family went in October 2017 without me and said it was just okay.

DH and I went in September 2017 great interaction with the wait staff and food was on point. The noodles and veggie curry were good.

Went for the first time a couple weeks ago (Mid May). Loved the atmosphere, and all the skippers I heard (including ours) were on point with the jokes and comments. Our skipper made recommendations on the menu choices ("Don't order the whole fish if you don't like lunch looking at you"), and I tried the lamb chops, my sister tried the Thai noodles. Thought the lamb chops were quite delicious, my first time eating those. Sis loved the noodles, but she loves spicy spicy things. What she says isn't spicy sends me running for gallons of liquid to quench fires! Having said that, she said the noodle bowl was quite spicy and very good.

Definitely going to eat there next trip!

How long should I plan for dinner for two, appetizers and entrees, no dessert? An hour?
