Just wondering if anyone has driven recently from the midwest to Orlando, using I75? We are in southern IL and will be going I24-I75. How was construction, traffic? Any delays? Thanks for any info.

We live in the midwest but we don't drive anymore. We have found flying to be same as driving after we took into account extra days wages lost, and hotel, gas, etc. You might try pricing it out both ways, if you don't mind flying. We got airfare thru southwest and we are flying roundtrip nonstop for $135 a piece. Good Luck!

Thanks pokeysmom.....we usually fly too, but my dd and I are driving this time for other reasons. (we are going other places too) $135 is a great price. I love SW and they have wonderful specials, if you hit it just right. Last summer we had a fare of $420 RT for all four of us. Haven't seen that for a long time.

Hi There , On June 12th Thursday I drove from Mco to Bryon Ga on 1-75 /24. my side of the road was fine ( quite a few big rains though ) how incoming to FL was rather crowded - delays . On June 13 Friday I drove from GA to Bowling Green KY and no big delays that day either - even in Atlanta .. On June 15th Sunday I drove Straight from Bowling Green to the DTD Hilton ( leaving BG at 9am CST and arriving in Disney at 11:15pm EST ) with out encountering a delay -
beware they are doing construction seems like in GA for a while but it didn't have too much effect on the traffic..
Hope this helps you .. Michelle

Thanks bigsis........it certainly does help. Alleviates some nervousness about all the construction I heard about from AAA. Was thinking of going through Ala. instead.

We drove down for the first time in April 2003 during Easter. We left our home in the Soutwest suburbs of Chicago at 4:30 pm and arrived and checked into The Hilton at 1pm florida time. DW and I drove straight through only stopping for Dinner at night and Breakfast in the morning including Rest stops and gas. The kids DS10, DD8, DS5 had a great time.

As far as traffic goes we missed everything. We Took 57 south to 24, 75. We saw one overturned car in Nashville and missed Atlanta's traffic completely. There was some construction in Georgia but we hit that about 6-7am, Sat moring and traffic was minimal.

We enjoyed the ride so much were going again this August for 2 weeks of Beach and Disney fun!!!!!

I drove it in May and the only construction I remember is in Indianapolis on I-65. Since you won't be going that way, it won't be a problem for you. :)

Have a great time!

Hey, we live in southern illinois too-carbondale, to be exact! We have always flown down, but are thinking of driving in late july. We are definitely planning to go through Alabama. Does anyone know of construction on that route? We plan to stop in the panhandle for a few days, and then go on from there. Not sure how to go from there, either. Thanks for starting this thread, be sure to come back and post a report on the road, pretty please? (SInce you will be going before we go!)
