CM is easy to get to using WDW buses. Just go to MK from you resort and take the monorail
If you would want to leave property, consider having in-laws purchase two cheap seats and drive them down and them they will have them for visits at their house. We however never leave grounds and unless that is in the plans you will be fine!!!
