Any reason we NEED to take the car seats?

We are (obviously) travelling by plane and using ME so won't need them to get to the resort but my in-laws are driving down and meeting us there for the week and we're wondering if we will need our sons' car seats at any time for convenience for dining.

I know we won't be using them for the parks, we'll just use the buses.

We do have breakfast at 8:30am one morning at Chef Mickeys and that's the only time I can see us needing to use the car and it being easier than Disney transportation. But I honestly can't see taking them out of the car, lugging 2 car seats through an airport, checking them, installing them in the car and doing that all over again for ONE time!

So, are there any other reasons why we would use the car over the transportation provided?

Thanks!

well if you are using a car atleast 1 time then you will need carseats but if you will never use a car then you wouldn't need them.

Oh yeah, of course. I'm just thinking it's not worth using the car at all.

DH wonders if it is. I'm telling him we can get every where without the car and it's not worth the hassle of taking the car seats but I wanted to get others opinions before I stood my ground :lmao:

Do your in-laws live near you? Are they able to bring them down in their vehicle? When we have gone with my DS at age 2, we brought one and wished we would not have. We found plenty of dining between the resorts, parks, and downtown Disney and found it very easy to get around on Disney transportation, so we found no need to bring the carseat with.

oh yeah I wouldn't use a car in Disney I misunderstood your question. Even to get to Chef Mickeys I wouldn't use it. So I am with you

I would just bite the bullet and take Disney transport to Chef Mickey. It is NOT worth the hassle of toting 2 car seats all that way just for one shorter trip . :sad2:

Now if you plan to eat off property, or visit Sea World or something, or if you plan to drive to the the parks every day, leave for a nap and come back in the evening, then it would make sense.

Don't bother bringing the car seats. Having recently flown with an infant and a car seat to Disney, its much more of a hassle than you need. You can totally take Disney Transportation to Chef Mickey's. Just grab a bus to MK and the monorail to CR. Easy Peasy. Have a great trip!

I wouldn't bring it. It is a big hassle lugging it around through the airport. Let Disney do the driving for you. We were thinking of taking a trip to Vero next year and decided not to mainly because we would have to bring a carseat.

That's exactly what I thought!! With two toddlers we will have enough to carry and struggle with through the airport, why make more work for us!

My inlaws live in another state so they can't take them for us. Wish they did so they could take ALL our luggage :rotfl:

Thanks for making me realize I was right ;)

depending on their age, they will at least need a booster.

are you bringing a stroller? we have a sit and stand and I took a trip with our 1yo and 4yo.. We used the sit and stand to load the car seats and all the carryons (most).. We gate checked her carseat (with cover) and the stroller. I went ahead with the DD (and her carryone) and a carryon for me and the carseat..

1st leg was a bit of a challenge, but return leg was smoother as I saw flaws in our organization that we corrected returning. much smoother coming back..

You never know if you will want to go out of the park area.. i'd suggest at least boosters for the older one and have your inlaws bring the carseat for the little one. i've been in countless accidents in the orlando/I-drive area that carseats are a must...

hassle or not, my kids welfare comes first. to illustrate, the 1st leg organization flaw was folding up the stroller BEFORE we got on the ramp to the plan.. thus i had to carry 2 car seats (one in a cover), stroller and carryons.. that covered carseat cut a mark in my sholder which lasted for over a week. Returing, i kept everything on the stoller and folded it at the door to the plane..

But we never JUSt stay in a park... we always go exploring..

As you are a pilot's wife, you would know you will not need them on the plane. Personally, it would not be worth that much hassle to bring them. I would just use disney transportation.

When my kids were young, if we flew, I'd didn't mess with bringing car seats even when we were renting a car.

It never dawned on me that I should've had them. Oh well, we got lucky and never had any issues. Thank goodness.

We drove our own vehicles when they were babies and didn't start flying with them until they were 2.

:lmao: Yes, I am happy that we no longer need them on the plane, what a pain they were to install in those small airline seats.

We have no plans on leaving Disney property this trip so we're just going to leave them home this time...phew! Two less pieces of "luggage" to deal with!

We have never taken out carseats to WDW- we have always used the busses and things were great- now the times we went to SeaWorld we got cabs with carseats in them- I don't know if we were just lucky but I would think many of the cabs especially the ones hanging around the resorts mght have carseats in them ( or at least in the trunk so they can be used when needed)

Why don't you need them on a plane anymore? What has changed?

We skipped it with our two year old and I didn't regret it at all. He was fine on the plane and busses, but he is one of those kids who actually listens when you tell him he needs to stay seated on a bus.
