Any reason to NOT buy tickets now?

We are planning our next visit for next summer. DH was thinking we should just buy our park passes as soon as we get the money saved up for them. We know that we are going to need five day passes, and we aren't getting hoppers. Is there any reason to not buy them ahead of time? I was originally thinking we should wait in case a good package deal came out, but don't most of the package promos involve having to buy hoppers? Would it be smarter just to buy the passes now, on the off chance that they raise prices again, and then just hold out for a room discount, which is most likely what we would get in the summer anyway?

There is no reason not to buy tickets unless you think you could end up booking a package which requires a ticket purchase. Such as Free Dining. If there is a chance you would want to book a package, then do not buy them now. If you know you'll book a room discount, or plan to stay off site, then yes, only thing you stand to loose by waiting is money as the ticket price would most likely increase between now and then

That's my concern - that something like free dining might come up. But then I was reading somewhere that free dining always required you to buy park hoppers - if that is really true, then it wouldn't be that good a deal for us, because we'd be paying more to get park hoppers than what we would probably end up saving with free dining. Plus, do they ever offer FD in the summer? I thought I saw some deal earlier this year or last yeAr that was one free QS meal per day, that would actually not be bad for us because that's usually all we eat anyway.

They offered a package for this summer that included one QS meal a day and that required tickets. There were also some other packages with discounts that required tickets.

We mostly do the room only discounts as those seem to work out better for us. This next June 2017 we are using rented dvc points, so I went ahead and bought our tickets this past Saturday as I got them from Parksavers and there is an indication that their sale (saving almost $80 off a 7 day park hopper) may end July 31st.

There will most likely be a ticket price increase from Disney before next summer.

Free Dining does not usually include summer dates. This year they did include a week or so in either late May or early June. The rest of the dates are in very late Aug/Sept, skips Oct for the most part and then some of Nov and Dec. And yes, the past couple of years they have required either PH or WP option to the tickets.
There are a few other random package deals, just as the Awaken Summer this year, which included a special Magic Band that also includes tickets. I don't think they did require PH for those. But I also think, unless you just want the small token they include as an incentive then a room only discount will be a better deal.
In that case, having tickets now would be a smart move.

I so regret buying tickets early! As in seriously angry at myself. There really are few reasons you should buy early. So you are going to lock yourself in to a trip possibly to save a few bucks? Then you take yourself out of so many equations for other deals. Many packages come out that require you to buy tickets with them that you will not qualify for. Just not worth it as tickets are non refundable. Take the money and put it in savings. I looked for many ways to unload my tickets and to no avail we are stuck with a Disney World trip when everyone wants a Disneyland trip, better yet no Disney at all. Moment of weakness.

....ok perhaps I am projecting my personal feelings a bit on this. lol

We don't stay on site, so packages are moot for us - I am looking at buying tix now for next April, under the ParkSavers promotion to save approx. $300 for our family. If you buy direct from Disney (not the deal I am buying), they won't expire (until you start to use them). That may change in the near future (as Disney Land has shown). Prices will only go up. Worst case scenario, if a package comes up you could buy the package then save the separate tickets for a different trip any time in the future.....

I do buy early for Disney World as I live on the East coast and am sure I will use them. Now when I head out west I wait and buy my Disneyland and Universal tickets at the gate. Yes they may be a few dollars more , but if we don't make it we may never make it that far. So it depends if you know for sure you will use them sometime.

I would not buy it now. I am not a risk taker and I would prefer to keep cash in my pocket. If you visit this board frequently, then you will receive enough notice in advance of a potential ticket price increase.

The advantage to buying them early is saving yourself the price increase, and the prices WILL most likely go up before your trip. I'm going in June 2017, and will be buying tickets probably in October. But, I'm also staying off site.

I did this very thing. Bought a 6-day ticket for my DS right before the price increase, only to have to cancel the trip I needed the 6-day ticket for. It is now sitting in my MDE account with no week-long WDW trip in our near future. Did I save money on a ticket? Sure! Will I use it sometime in the future? Yes, but I have no idea when. Would I rather have that money in savings accruing interest - YUP! The reason not to buy them now is, life happens. It's better to have cash in-hand, IMHO, then invest in WDW tickets for a trip that is a year away. I would just keep an eye on the board for price increase rumors or wait until your dates are more set in stone.
