Any reason not to make DHS Bigger?

I'm honestly surprised that there isn't a central parking area for cast members who would then be bussed to their respective parks, etc.

You know....

Considering I never remember seeing "Cast Parking" at the parks when growing up, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a more centralized Cast parking WAY back in the day. I could quite honestly picture Disney deciding that it was "more cost effective" to canibalize their existing guest parking (complete with ugly barriers) that it was to have a bus running that could take CM's from the 'backstage' parking to the respective parks.

Then again.... maybe the CM's always just parked with the guests and we didn't notice since at one time Disney did not allow CM's to take their costumes off-site.

Then again, I can say the same thing about the TTC Cast parking....

I've heard the mention before of expanding into where the cast parking is currently, The problems though have been questions of what backstage areas would be disrupted between the current guest areas and the parking lot location, And the fact that the driveway from the main entrance is right there and could be disrupted by the construction.

There was also the question of where the Cast would then be expected to park.
CM will park at epcot and get bussed into DHS

Hmm...maybe make Star Tours a little more useful...board a Star Speeder, and have a virtual trip to Tatooine, while actually being moved across the road... :)
Maybe thats it! Instead of the radiator springs racers, they will have it as a star wars theme with the land cruisers.

The easiest thing to do, to expand, would probably be to build a 3 or 4 level parking garage on the northeastern of the 4 large parking lots, then using the large southwestern lot for expansion of Star Wars. Everything in the buildings behind Indy/Backlot Express would have to be relocated, but I'm sure they can figure that out.

You'd have a pretty large area consisting of Sounds Dangerous, Star Tours, Backlot Express, Indy Stunt Show, those buildings behind Indy/Backlot, and that entire southwestern parking lot.

Then you have the LMA, Backlot Tour, and maybe the few buildings enclosed within Stage Lane for a comprehensive CarsLand.

That way, you can keep the Streets of America, the Muppets, Mama Melrose, Sci-Fi Dine In, etc. while having large areas to expand/re-theme.

This keeps it a single park without transport to another area needed, and saves the land across World Drive for a possible future resort - still unclear to me if they could use Marvel for a resort, if so, that would be a perfect spot for it. Include a character meal, and that DHS area suddenly turns into a boys perfect resort/park combo for the most part - Marvel/Star Wars/Cars plus ToT and RnRC.

That certainly brings up a new good pt. IF DHS get this massive expansion that is rumored will the rumored resort across world drive would be built.

Hmmm...Coruscant Inn? THe Wheel Well Motel (but they already have a Cars theme at AoA)...The Hollywood Tower Hotel (kinda creepy...)

I remember when the Indy stunt show stadium area was the Eeyore parking lot at MGM.

The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular show at DHS was one of the original attractions at Disney-MGM Studios when the park opened in 1989. The parking lots sections there were never named after Winnie the Pooh characters. The names were originally Comedy, Western, Romance, and Mystery. Later, the names became Television, Stage, Film, and Music.

The Indiana Jones Adventure ride at Disneyland was once the Eeyore section of Disneyland's parking lot.

Thanks a lot! I didn't need to know I'm getting old and senile and mixing up the various Disney properties. I'm gonna be so agitated that when I wake up at 4:30am I'll have to wait 2-3 hours to yell at kids to get off my lawn.

That was basically my point Doc.
It seems to be low hanging fruit....so if they aren't going to build on it, there must be a compelling reason why. It's listed as unsuitable....and if there was a way to make it suitable for less money than tearing down existing stuff, they'd probably go for it.

I remember reading somewhere about the complicated contract deal that Disney/Universal has with the Marvel characters. Some kind of time limit until Disney can use them in a park. Can't remember exactly what it is (and there are probably very few people who actually know for sure what that is...) but I'm wondering if they're waiting, biding their time for when they're able to use Marvel and Star Wars - and just one-two punch the Studios. It would be enough to draw people down to WDW just to see all the new stuff (think New Fantasyland), plus Avatar Land at AK (*ducks to avoid tomatoes being thrown*). I also remember reading that Universal has exclusive rights to the Harry Potter FJ ride technology, but only for a certain time - after that, it's up for grabs for Disney (or anyone else) to use. Perhaps saving money now and spending strategically later is a better strategy, when they have better things to spend it on. Plus, they can minimize total construction time by doing everything at once. Close your eyes, and ta daaa! New HS.

And the idea of a new resort is interesting. AoA was a "premiere" Value resort, so now you have 5 Values, 8 Deluxe, 9 DVC, and only four Mods (did I forget one?). No Mods are currently walkable to a park, so if they put it across World Drive, it'd be awfully close but hard to make it "walkable -" most likely another "premiere Value" or Mod would be put in, and themed for boys (as was AoA in many ways with Lion King and Cars) would be wise, as you mention mvk.

Hope that's not wishful thinking :)

As far as a new resort a value themed star wars and marv yes marvel as its out side of the "parks". Would be great. In the parks imho you will not see marvel anywhere in WDW. I do see DLR getting a huge marvel land.

Actually, quite a few do...most of the details of the contract are spelled out in Universal's public SEC documents.

There is no time limit. Universal gets to use the current Marvel properties they are using for as long as they choose to, subject to paying the licensing fee, and "reasonable upkeep" of the attractions.

And they have complete theme park exclusivity in the U.S. east of the Mississippi. That's why you may hear rumblings of doing something at Disneyland, but not at WDW at all.

Although a resort would be outside of a theme park, there are also clauses that prevent certain other ventures, including resorts, within certain ranges from USO, etc. There was another thread recently about this.

I thought the wording regarding non-theme park ventures (including resorts) was kind of worded weirdly, and couldn't decipher what it exactly meant. Seemed like the entire clause was a double negative, if I remember correctly.
