Any reason NOT to book through Travelocity?

Travelocity is same price as Disney but offering $500 on board credit for my summer dates. This is our first cruise....is there any reason it would be better to book with Disney for any reason? Or does it really matter?

I think the main thing to be aware of is that all payments and any changes would have to go through Travelocity. DCL won't talk to you about the reservation.

I'd also double check if THEY have a cancellation fee. I know the hotel and air cruise divisions have their own cancellation fee regardless of when you cancel.

Because you will not get as good of a deal compared to Costco. You get a Costco cash card worth 8-9% of your cruise cost. you can pay on their website in full or a little at a time.

If you need to change your cabin (not done very often) then you just call costco travel, they call DCL with you on the phone and it gets done.

Everyone has the same price as DCL, there are no discounts. But get the best deal like the OBC or the Cash Card..... whatever is higher.

As a former travel agent, i would never book anything though a consolidator like Travelocity, Expedia, etc. What they sell you is not always what you get at the end. Read the fine print. There was a lady on here a while back posting about how she was flying with a lot of little kids and two adults and ended up getting separated. She thought she "reserved" seats together, but ended up with little kids all over the plane...and it was not something the airline was willing to work with her about either since it was booked through a consolidator. Again...read the fine print. They are really good at selling one thing and giving you another.

That is only a good deal if you have a Costco in your area and shop there. Not everyone does, so it is NOT a good deal for everyone.

There's no reason not to book, but you may also get the same on board credit by another Travel Agent who will give you better service. Be sure to shop around.

Question.... If I remember correctly, when you book a hotel with Travelocity/Expedia, it's a no refund. What about their cruises? Are the downpayments still refundable?

It would appear that they follow Disney's cancellation policy for DCL reservations:
Cruise T&Cs:
Travelocity's DCL Canceclation table (exactly what DCL publishes):

I had a not-so-great Travelocity hotel experience years ago, so I personally stick with Costco or booking directly.

For hotel bookings, there are refundable options when booking through Travelocity or Expedia. When looking at the room selection for a specific booking, the lowest price option is often nonrefundable, but there can be fully refundable choices too, usually for a few dollars more per night. I've never booked a cruise through either of these sites so I can't say what their policy is on refunding the deposit, but I'd think they would follow DCL's cancellation policy.

In regards to the OP, I would recommend checking out other Disney specialist TAs to see how much OBC they are offering. Mainly because I have heard many complaints from people booking with Travelocity and Expedia that those agencies weren't helpful when problems arose. You might get less OBC with another TA but better service.

my co worker booked his cruise (it was Cunard though) thru travelocity because of the huge onboard credit he would receive. No hitches at all and he was even upgraded to a higher level rated stateroom a week before their cruise. His OBC was waiting for him as promised by travelocity. Just relaying what his experience had been this past december.

This is long, but bear with me if you want to know our Travelocity horror story.

I booked some airfare through Travelocity for our Alaskan cruise last year and I will never ever work with them again. There were some problems with our flights when the schedule changed and our connection became too short. Their customer service was horrible. They were basically completely unwilling to rebook us on anything reasonable, telling us that the most similar in price was a flight that had a 5 hour layover in LAX and got us into Vancouver at 11:30 at night. How about NOPE! I couldn't get anywhere with them, finally I called WestJet (who the affected flights were with) and they quickly changed me to a much better flight no questions asked and no additional charges.

Unfortunately, when they sent the updated schedule over to Travelocity, Travelocity completely cancelled our return flights (which were unaffected) without even telling me (or giving me any kind of refund that I would have noticed). I only found out a few months later when I went to print our itinerary for my binder. I couldn't find our reservation on their site. I called them and they said that they got an updated itinerary from WestJet but it didn't include the return trip (duh, because that wasn't affected) so they just cancelled it (again, this was with no refund or anything). Again, Travelocity couldn't help. They basically washed their hands of the whole thing. I called WestJet and they were able to rebook our flights, but by this time, we couldn't get seats together for one of our non-WestJet flights *sigh* No problem, WestJet just upgraded us for no charge.

I called Travelocity back and finally was able to get a supervisor, (which was like pulling teeth the whole time) and I explained what happened. They offered to give me $100 credit on a future hotel booked through them. Well, fast forward a few months. I tried to book a hotel. No credit. Forget it. I'm done.

I think the question is: Any reason TO book through Travelocity? If it's primarily the OBC you are after, seems like you can get that (or its equivalent) from many other places that don't have such spotty records.

Thanks for all the info, I generally spend lots of time doing my homework before I book anything, but as I'm booking late in the game and trying to expedite a decision before there's no availability, I appreciate all the feedback. I've booked lots through Expedia before without any issues, but never a cruise and have no experience at all with Travelocity.
