Any really good rates for early Oct?

I've already booked for Oct.5th-Oct9th at National and I've looked around, but the cheapest I can find is $179. I've noticed that in the next few months there amazing deals out there. Is this because of the time frame or are the deals usually better the closer you get to your date?
