Any problems using UK ID?

Has anybody experienced any problems using a UK driving license as ID whilst in orlando, for buying alcohol and also for renting a car?

None whatsoever

For rental they only ask to see the card but you need the green paper bit just incase you get pulled over yes this has happened to me eeek!! It's OK I wasn't given a ticket but the traffic cop asked to see my paper bit

I always take my DL with me everywhere for buying alcohol and also sometimes I'm asked when i pay by credit card

I actually now carry it with me here in the UK all the time so no sweat to me.

Yes on the alcohol. Big River Grill at the Boardwalk refused my UK driving license and said that it was Florida Law and that they would only accept a US driving license and if from the UK only a passport was acceptable.

OMG!? That's awful, is it Florida law? I never knew this!!

The staff at the Boardwalk confirmed this and had no real explanation when I mentioned my ID has been accepted elsewhere for years and if that was the case why had Disney served me alcohol with this ID (and without any ID check).

Hmmm interesting. Always used my driving license in the past. Certainly don't wanna be taking my passport out with me every day whenever I go!!

I have never had to actually show any ID for alcohol but I have been asked my age a lot. The first time it happened at the pool bar at POFQ 7 years ago I actually thought the guy was having a joke with me! I don't really get it. I'd love to be under 21 but I'm very clearly not!!!!

Take it as a compliment. My wife and I compete to see how many times we can get ID'd. I rarely win...

I've seen a few obviously middle aged people be ID'd for alcohol, it's weird, but I dot think you've got ANY chance of getting away with it under 21 with their system.

Seems like UK driving license is OK on the whole - last summer, I was only refused it once on property, and that was in Bongo's in DTD. They told me that they would only accept my passport. Moved on to Planet Hollywood instead, and they accepted UK driving license, no problem.

Never had a problem with a driving license in the parks for alcohol

I would never risk carrying my passport round with me, so if they refused my driving licence as ID for alcohol somewhere, then no sweat, I'd just move on

I love the notices in the AMC cinema in DTD that states something like they ID anyone who looks under the age of 99

I thought i would not have to wrry being 50, then I saw the under 99 comment very good, I have always use DL wonder if a photocopy of passport would be enough

I was hoping a photocopy of a passport would do as I do not have a driving licence since I don't drive and I do not want to carry my passport everywhere

In theory they can accept any ID from any country. BUT it's all down to the person checking it. The only rule is that the CM has to understand the language on it and know it's real and not a fake. I think the reason some people might have problems with UK IDs is that they write the date differently in the US. Like todays date is written 5/8/12 in UK, it would be written 8/5/12 in the US. Also it's a Disney rule to ID anyone that looks to be under 30.

I also think it doesn't help that the photocard licence changes style SO much, for eg. mine is totally different looking to a friend who passed their test the year after me. It must be really hard to keep up with what is a legitimate UK licence and what's a very good fake!

No on the photocopy of passport- my SIL was refused with that too.

Interestingly, I spoke to the staff at the Boardwalk who said that Americans are told to carry their passports everywhere and we must do the same. I explained that we are advised to put it in hotel safes and NOT to carry it. That guy was genuinely shocked that we, like them, did not carry our passports everywhere whilst abroad.

The Big River Grill has a book of acceptable photo ID's and will not accept anything else.

The staff at the Boardwalk also told me it was noting to to with the date or language it was in (because I did bring that up) and that even he himself had no idea what half the US licenses looked like and would be unable to tell a fake Utah license just the same as a UK one so that was not the reason. He just had no real explanation.

What you were told wasn't entirely true as alot of Americans don't have a passport. My finger print wasn't working at the IOA gates one time so the Team Members had to go scan my ticket to confirm when I had previously used it etc. anyway the guy told me I should carry my passport with me at all times so I could have proved my ID. I just agreed but thought AS IF I'm gonna carry my passport around a theme park all day.

Sorry, I wasn't clear and only mentioned 'abroad' at the end of the sentences. I meant Americans that travel to Europe are told to keep their passports with them at all times and it was expected that we would do the same but in reverse.
