I am considering purchasing Disney Gift Cards for our Disneyland trip next month, using Targets 5% discount. Has anyone had any issues in the parks using them? Anything I should know before buying several hundred dollars in gift cards?? It seems hassle free, but i fear i'm missing something. I know they cannot be used at the vendor carts and such. Has anyone had any issues at sit down restaurants?? Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

The only issue I had was adding meal tips to the gift card at table service restaurants. I now bring enough cash to cover the tip even if I use the card for the meal.

Also note: you won't be able to use the Disney gift cards at the restaurants in DTD.

We mainly had GC last trip and carried a little cash for ancillaries.
There are only a few vendor carts that could not take them. They worked for ice cream and popcorn.
I say go for it.

We use gift cards for our food purchases while at Disneyland, except those in Downtown Disney as previously mentioned and love that we don't need to bring that much cash. We do keep cash for the vendors but that's it.

Tell me more about this 5% discount on gift cards you mentioned.

Thank you so much everyone for your fast and helpful replies!!:)

If you have a Target Credit Card, or possibly even a Target Debit Card, you get an automatic 5% discount on all purchases, including Disney Gift Cards. I've even heard of others who have gotten coupons for another 5% on top of it, I have never been lucky enough to get one of those though. I like the fact that I am saving money, even if it's 5%.

if you're a Pharmacy Rewards member you get a 5% off one day of shopping after filling 5 prescriptions. You can combine that with your 5% with your Red Card.

The Target discount really includes gift cards?! I always assumed it didn't. That's pretty cool.

Everything I've read says it includes them, I will find out for sure tomorrow and let you know. I'll keep my fingers crossed. LOL!

Let me know, if it's true, then I will apply for the debit card from target on Friday. lol

Did you know you could pay for your Disney hotel with their gift cards? We just did that with gift cards from Fry's grocery stores. 2x fuel points.

That is awesome! Don't you just love saving money on a vacation??:cool1:
Makes me wonder if we could do the same with Fred Meyer here???

I just used them last month although I did not try them at any table service restaurants. And yes you do get 5% off when you buy them at target with your red card. Awesome!

Yep! It works. We did it last month for our trip. Saved 5%. It was great. Used them everywhere, but the carts. Even used them at Goofy's Kitchen, gift shops and restaurants.

As stated by a previous poster, every little bit counts :thumbsup2

I did a triple stack a week or so at Target. 5% for using Target credit card, 5% pharmacy reward, and 5% off mailed coupon!

I have used them for Disney hotels, table service, even Club 33. The reason it works is because Target classifies Disney gift cards as "entertainment cards". This doesn't work for Target gift cards and others that are classified as "gift cards". Weird, but I will take it!

I've been stocking up but it's been difficult as the Target Debit card doesn't allow you to just do any amount. You have to build up over time. I assume that the next time I go I will be able to spend $300-$350. Next week I am going to try and buy that amount and for higher the next day since I'll be staying overnight near a Target.

I read that you should take pics on your cellphone of both sides of the cards just in case they get lost, and then Disney can replace them.

Just make sure that your gift cards are Disney gift cards, not Disney Store gift cards (especially if you grab a few off the rack). We witnessed a sad and embarrassing incident at DL with an older couple who had enjoyed a large (and, I assume, expensive) meal. They wanted to pay with a gift card that they had received from a friend. Well, it turned out that it was a Disney Store gift card, and the CM tried very hard to explain clearly and kindly that he couldn't accept it as payment. The older couple did not understand, and the whole sad discussion was repeated several times.
