Would like to try Priceline for our trip in 2 weeks. We are adding just one day and that night is over $150 at HOJO (where we are staying the rest of the week). It's not in the same type of room so we will have to move anyway.

My question is, do you pick cat 5 or cat 6?

5: Disneyland, Anaheim North
6: Disneyland, Anaheim South, Orange, Garden Grove

Any Priceline experiences out there?

I'd look at the Better Bidding website to get ideas of category and prices people have been able to get.

I've never been very lucky with getting Priceline rooms for Disneyland area hotels during the summer season, but you might get lucky.

The one thing to note though, I don't know how many people you have, but they only guarantee one bed in the room. So you might get stuck with a king bed room. It doesn't always happen, but it could.

We've done priceline for the DLR area twice but I can't remember which category. We got the Hyatt one time and the Hilton the other time so i guess whichever category those 2 hotels are in, lol. But like PP said, you should check out betterbidding.com so you will have an educated guess as to which hotel you are bidding on.

I liked my only experience with Hotwire.com. I like it because you can put how many people are in your party so you know you can all fit into a room. If you use 3 1/2 stars and "disneyland north" you will likely end up at Hotel Menage (I did a review of that place recently). You can pick north or south there and it will show you the price and area, but not the hotel name. There is no bidding so you might not get as good a rate as Priceline. Just something to look at...

Like Priceline, if you use betterbidding you can get a pretty good idea where you will be put. For example, if you pick a 4 star in the south area, it will be the Hilton or Hyatt. If you pick a 3 1/2 star in the north area, it would be Menage or Anabella.

This sounds like good advice. I used priceline last summer when I was staying with my brother in NYC. We wanted a place down town so we did priceline for a few nights stay. We got a 4 stare hotel for 159 a night, but there was no place to put the amount of guests and of course we ended up with a king size bed. Our youngest slept in the king bed with us. The oldest on the floor. I swear that "King" size bed was smaller then our king size bed at home too.

The fact that hotwire lets you put in the number of guests just made me decide to use them instead of priceline for the beach part of our upcoming LA/Disney Land trip. Thanks for that info. :thumbsup2

No problem. You usually can save money if you go Priceline instead of Hotwire, but for families it is nice to know you don't have to squeeze into a room uncomfortably. From Hotwire's help center:

All rooms booked on Hotwire will accommodate the appropriate number of guests in each room, based on the total number of guests you provided and the number of rooms you requested. Some of our hotel partners allow you to reserve your beds (e.g., king, queen) at the time of booking. Look for this indicated in the search results. If this option is not available, please contact the property directly. While we cannot guarantee that your request will be accommodated, our hotel partners will do their best to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

I haven't used Priceline or Hotwire before, but I used Expedia Unpublished rates last time and we were able to put how many people we had so we made sure to have 2 beds rather than the 1 you usually end up with on Priceline.

Both 5 & 6 are very close, 5 is slightly closer.

Start at the highest star level available and work your way down (and increase price accordingly).

For pricing ideas, look at hotwire, subtract 10%, if Priceline doesn't accept an offer below hotwire's price, use hotwire.

Also good to know, thanks! :thumbsup2

Go to Hotwirerevealed dot com. I can't say it's a 100% accurate as I have never used it but it was suggested me so I am suggesting it to you :)

We use priceline all the time for our disneyland hotel, HOWEVER we are fairly easy going about where we stay we only see it as a place to sleep. We have been able to call ahead and get a room with 2 queens even though the default is a king sized bed. We always get either Hyatt, Hilton, or the Double Tree. (We bid on 4 and 3.5 stars) and have gotten rooms for around 40.00 a night. But if you have to have 2 beds then go the hotwire route.
