Any positive teacher stories this year?

DD had a great 6th grade year, first year of middle school in our system. It started out a little rocky with math, but she had the most wonderful guidance counselor who advocated for her to go to a different class and the new teacher was great! Last day of school DD and her hugged and she told DD how proud she was of her effort and ability to catch up.

DS had the most wonderful preschool teachers. Because of them, he has improved in social skills and I feel more ready than ever to send him to Kindergarten.

We adore DS's K teacher! I can't say enough good things about her. I have come to consider her a good friend.

We just got our letter telling us who his teacher is this year and we are thrilled! I didn't put in a request (other than he not be in the same room with another child), but it is who we would have chosen!

My DD had some amazing teachers this year! I would love to name, names, but I will not out them in a public forum, but I will say that one of her teachers was so amazing, DD nominated her for our local newspapers person of the year. We haven't heard yet if she got it.

My mom always said if you had 50% good you had a great year. I kind of agree with her. We had a couple of teachers that should really rethink the profession, but the good overwhelm the bad!!!

On a sad note, most of her great teachers will no longer be in the system because of lay-offs or they are retiring. It makes me sad to know our system is losing so much talent.

Oh year. My son had his first ever male teacher for 5th grade, and that was a perfect fit for him. His teacher went to the college DS hopes to go to and is a huge fan of their football program, so they had common ground right off the bat, and he runs a very disciplined classroom which is exactly what DS needs to keep himself focused. Plus his teacher is very involved in a number of causes and made community service a big part of the year, which I think is good across the board for kids that age to get them thinking beyond themselves and their problems.

I had one great class this year and one that was :scared1: My teaching partner (the one that had that other class) is the one that kept me sane with that bunch. Unfortunately, she is not tenured and they did a layoff of non-tenured teachers and she got the cut. I feel so bad for her because she is a great teacher. My district is doing some major changes for next year so who knows who I'll be getting as a new partner.

We have a week and a half left of school.

My DD just finished up her 3rd grade year and her teacher was wonderful. DD loved her and the teacher said she really enjoyed DD. That makes the year so much better. :)

Our 3rd/4th graders are moving to a combined class next year (a new thing for us) so DD may have the same teacher in her class. :)

As far as academics go, it was so-so, which is a far improvement over past years! I think the teachers did a pretty good job and there were no major problems other than some issues with the dress code.

Now, her band director, WOW. One of the most passionate, energetic, motivating, inspirational teachers I know. I had him during his first year of teaching and that man turned me into a musician. He's taken this underprivileged middle school band and turned them into a competition powerhouse. I wish we could kick out the lackluster high school director and take the middle school director with us next year. The man is phenomenal.

Yay for all those hard-working, creative and caring teachers out there!! :thumbsup2 We DO appreciate you!
We were blessed with another great year for both of my oldest this year. My son who just finished 2nd grade had a teacher that was so sweet, fun and seemed to really be tuned in to the needs of her students based on all the different personalities. When my son needed help with his cursive she spent 20 minutes a day with him and then arranged for extra help for him 3x per week to give him the extra practice. My daughter just finished pre-k and had the sweetest teachers! They made me feel about 100 years old, but all the kids adored them and they were so energetic and enthusiastic! The did so many creative lessons to help the kids learn their letters and sounds. Can't wait to find out who they have next year, but at my school we don't find out until they get home from their first day. :scared1:
Happy summer everyone!

My son just finished his 10th grade year. He loved his Spanish II and Geometry teachers and I did too!

He had the same teacher in Spanish I and was thrilled to have her again. Spanish was not his strongest subject but she made it work or him. At the beginning of the year she sent me an e-mail saying how happy she was to have him in class again.

His geometry teacher (her first year at his school, not teaching) had the perfect teaching style for him and he excelled in her class even though math isn't his strongest subject. A few months into the school year she called to tell me how well he was doing and what good parents we are to have raised such a great kid. That one phone call made my year!
Sadly, the day of his final he found out the school did not renew her contract. She told him they said she didn't fit the <insert school name here> way. Really, their way isn't to teach and inspire children? He was so hoping to have her for Algebra II. I wish I had known earlier so I could have voiced my displeasure. It may not have helped, but I would have felt better!

And finally,as a preschool teacher, I hope I touched some little lives this year! I know they touched mine!

Both of my sons are special needs. They have had an amazing teacher for the past 2 years. She even had me bring them in 40 minutes before the official start time so she could squeeze in some extra time with them. And the para professionals even came in to help. We have been blessed with some incredible educators! I actually broke down and cried as I wrote their thank-you cards at the end of the year. I don't think they realize how much their hard work meant to us.

Another shout out to great teachers everywhere:cool1: DD liked all her teachers except one (I think because he doesn't put up with girl drama, lol) and all her classes. We are lucky that she is in a charter school with a project-based cirriculum which works well for her. She has one teacher in particular that I like ~ her English teacher. She is always right on top of grading and extra help time, communicates to parents by email with upcoming events/concerns/etc. DD has one teacher that still has not graded a major project from March:confused3 But hey we can't all be Type A's can we:laughing:

Not only does he inspire the kids to constant musical greatness, when my daughter had an asthma attack, he left the away game where they were playing to rush her home one rainy and cold October night.

I can't before I forgot to mention that!
