DD11 is finishing her first year in middle school. All of her teachers have been great. Great communication between the parent and teachers. Whoever invented the thing on the web that you can check your kid's progress, rocks!

So, any positive teacher stories out there? Any teachers who had a good year?

My older child's teacher was amazing! I'm sad that she's moving to another state and won't be around when the younger child gets to the school. She was so patient, creative, and caring. Hope we get another good one next year! (Of course, I'm also hoping that we're not in a multi-grade room next year.)

My students were in two distinct camps this year. I had a small group I wanted to get away from. It was more than the usual 1 or 2 bad apples. The rest were tons of fun and will be go on to do great things!

OMG, my son Christian has the best teachers and parapros ever! He is in a self-contained class, the same one year after year. Christian is profoundly mentally handicapped, so teaching him is a big challenge. But they are faithful to him, pushing, prodding and never letting up. One teacher has 30yrs experience and the other has 5yrs. Unfortunately, our school system decided to let go all their part-time teachers, so we just lost 35yrs combined experience.:sad1: I reallly hope for a miracle and they rehire his teachers. It's a huge loss for him, and for us, and this is his last year in middle school. I just hate for him to have a new teacher for 1 year, then transfer to a high school where he will, of course, have all new teachers again. For someone like him, those are huge changes.:headache:

My son was in 7th grade this past school year he had an amazing science teacher. At the begining of the year i was worried because she came across gruff, and i wasn't sure how'd he'd deal but it wasn't that way at all. at the end of the school year she knew that we wre going to disney she presented him with a beach towel a water camera and a 2007 disney book because she's always wanted to go to disney but her husband dosent want to. she also wrote him a note thatnking him for being a great student and all his help in class. she was just one of those rare but special teachers.

My kids (3rd grade and pre-K) had fantastic teachers this year.

My Ds' Pre-K teacher is one of a kind - My son will only be 4 when he starts Kindergarten due to a late Sept. birthday yet DS is already reading - he came so far this year and her teaching style really gets the kids ready for K.

My 3rd grader also had a great teacher - honestly I didn't correspond with her all that much but I know DS learned a lot this year and has been happy.

With 3 kiddos in school it seems every year we get lots of good teachers, a few GREAT teachers and a few not so great.

The GREATS this year.... HS Band director, really went above and beyond for my DS15..... Grade 6 Band Director, helped DS12 go from beginner to Honor Band in a matter of weeks! .... Grade 6 Social Studies teacher, motivating, creative, awesome!... Grade 4 Art teacher, awesome!... Grade 4 PE teacher, used to be a MS science teacher and certainly has found her calling in PE!..

Its easy to complain about the not so great, but you are right...lets hear it for the GREAT teachers out there!:love::love:

I don't have anything negative to say, so thats good :thumbsup2
Looking foward to seeing who my ds gets next year, there is one teacher who is absolutely amazing and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for her :goodvibes

My daughters teacher was new this year and she was awesome! She went above and beyond in everything she did with the kids. My daughter is so sad to be leaving grade school and her teachers there. She has had great teachers every year from K-5 for the most part- other than the one that took off at least twice a week all year but for the most part every teacher she has had has been wonderful!

This was a mediocre year for us, nothing overly positive or negative either way when it came to our kids teachers. Our son, I think, had a better experience with his 4th grade teacher than our daughter did when she had the same teacher in 2nd grade, which was good. A couple small things irked us, but nothing really worth being upset over.

Our daughter starts high school next year. I feel old.

My ds7's teacher was amazing. She had some tough situations, but had open communication with the parents, and spent a lot of time on respecting each other, and making the classroom a positive place for all. My ds was one of the problems, and she didn't hesitate to call me and let me know the problem, as well as how she would handle it in the classroom (a boy in dd7's class had similar issues, but the teacher would tell the mom, and not mention what she planned on doing - drove the mom nuts).

ETA - forgot dd9's teacher, only because my older 2 had him, so I knew going in what a great year it would be. Dd is always saying how great he is, how much she is learning, even stuff he doesn't have to teach them (ie - she now knows how to write checks and keep track of her checking account, how to write up a paycheck, including taking out for taxes and ss). He's the toughest teacher, but definitely the most creative and exciting. He's going to retire, thanks to Corzine, but already signed up to be a sub (he also has a law degree).

Both of my girls had excellent teachers this year. My youngest is finishing kindergarten and had the same excellent teacher my oldest had. I wasn't surprised by how great she was but more by how much the curriculum has changed and dd excelled at it. This teacher has lots of animals in the classroom - rabbit, hamster, fish, frogs in different stages. At one point she had a gerbil who died of old age. They raised butterflies that the gets released. They also had an incubator for quails and ducks. The quails went back to the farm early on but the ducks have spent the past few weeks so the kids could watch them grow and do things like duck pool parties. They had to go back to the farm Friday.

My oldest dd in 4th grade had excellent teachers in k, 1, 2, and 4. The 3rd grade teacher was fine for academics but just not fun and didn't really seem to like dd. This year the teacher was new to the school and her first year teaching regular vs middle school science. She did a ton of fun science things thru out the year. DD started the year with a broken arm and needed two surgeries. The teacher went out of her way to make sure dd had whatever help she needed (which was minimal). There was excellent communication. DD had a slight issue with oral reading which the teacher went out of her way to help with though it turns out dd has some hearing loss which we recently found out about. This teacher seems to know all the students strengths and weaknesses and tries to work with them individually as much as she can.

I am so happy to read all the positive notes!

As a teacher, I try really hard to make every year a great year for my students:teacher:

I had an awesome year this year with my students, I am really sad to see them go. Every parent was a delight, as well, and it was one of the nicest classes I have ever had! (20 years experience this year) We got to do so many "above and beyond" activities this year, the students thrived on learning and behavior problems were nearly nonexistant.

My own three kids: Many good things to say! Very pleased with their school, how personable and friendly and hard working the staff is. DD11 had a very tough year with a very tough teacher, but it is a life skill to get along with everyone (you think your boss is going to be delightful every day? NO!) A positive attitude goes a long way, for everyone!

I am always happy to see summer arrive and always renewed for a new year, just like my kids are. Thanks for sharing some positive teacher comments!

Not this year, but I still love the teacher that my daughter had two years ago. My daughter was going through a real quirky, awkward phase and her teacher really "got" her. I have a feeling she may have been a little quirky as a teenager herself. It was a terrific year and she was absolutely the best teacher my daughter could have had!

My daughter's third grade teacher is absolutely amazing (my son had her last year). Not only is she a great teacher, but she's a great person, I've really come to enjoy her on a personal level.

I guess I'm lucky. I read so many stories on the DIS of people complaining about their kid's school and teacher. My son is going into the 5th grade and my daughter the 4th and I've loved their school and all their teacher's (3rd grade teacher being our favorite). It truly has been a great experience. My son will switch to the intermediate school next year, but we are really looking forward to it. I've subbed in the district the past couple of years and the intermediate school was my favorite to sub in. I think he'll really like it and he's looking forward to all the extra activities they have.

My DD started high school this year. She goes to a vocational school so none of the students knew each other going into the school year. I know they were all a bit nervous about it. This school has some wonderful teachers, but there were two who stood out to me. First of all, the gym / health teacher struck me as really tuned in to the students. I credit her with pulling my DD into the fold and helping her adapt so easily to her new environment. When I first saw this teacher she struck me as gruff, but she is so NOT gruff. She is a very caring, nice person and she looks past the surface and tunes in to the kids and is there for them beyond their academic needs. The other teacher who stood out to me is her math teacher. Math has never been DD's strong subject but this teacher is older and I think her methods are old school. Algebra ended up being DD's strongest subject this year and I think it's due to this teacher's abilities / methodologies. Overall, I am just so pleased with how this year has gone.

Not a lot of high school teachers here, but I'd like to mention my DD17's French teacher this year who was the nicest, sweetest, most wonderful teacher. DD loved her. :lovestruc

My daughter has the greatest band teacher in the world. He's really the high school band teacher, but for certain instruments he teaches elementary (so my son had him this year, too) and he's the marching band director.

Not only does he inspire the kids to constant musical greatness, when my daughter had an asthma attack, he left the away game where they were playing to rush her home one rainy and cold October night. For that alone, he's high on my list of heroes. (And that will teach me I need to go to even the rainy away games!)

What great stories to read! I am a Kindergarten teacher and have had an amazing year. I am going to be sad on the last day but I am so proud of my kids!

DS8 had a wonderful 2nd grade teacher after we switched his school in Jan. He made so much progress in 5 months.

His teacher told me she is moving to 3rd and he will be in her class again.:yay:
