I've seen some mixed reviews on Allears for Spirit of Aloha. We're considering booking this for our next trip...are there any DIS'ers with positive reviews of the show/food?

If not, what did you dislike about the show/food?

Thanks!

We haven't done this because I have never found a great review. All reviews either complain about the food or the show. If you find some good reviews please report back.

We love Hoop Dee Doo but I've seen the show so many times that I could probably perform in it myself. :)

Here is one: We LOVED it! :thumbsup2

We went to the 8pm show, which added to the ambiance after dark with the tiki torches lit. The first half of the show is a little too cheesy with a hokey storyline, but the second half of the show is A-MAZ-ING with the traditional preformances, especially the fire dancer. My 8 year old was totally captivated and stood up and clapped after every dance.

The food was way better than I was expecting after reading many not so good reviews. My salad was fresh and delicious, the fruit was fresh, the bread was warm and delicious, and the chicken was moist and yummy, as were the ribs. The only disappointment was the dessert, you could totally tell they made mass quantities ahead of time and put them in the fridge, it was kind of blah. But free beer and wine is a huge plus!

We would totally do it again if we had the chance. Enjoy!

We LOVE it as well. We have done it at least three times and the food is always one of our favorite meals of the trip. The show is cute as well. I highly recommend it!

We have gone 2 tmes now, the last 2 years, this year we took a break!

I love the spiirit of Aloha dinner and show. The first year we had an amazing Hawaiian server, he was our best server the whole trip. He anticipated what we needed before we could ask. He made sure the kids were taken care of the whole time and since we had all little ones under the age of 3 at our table he was more than attentive even bringing hot water to the table to warm any baby food or bottle should we have had them.
He kept the drinks filled and even brought out lots of fruit for the kids. It was one of our best meals ever. The salad is to die for and the chicken and rice were amazing even the ribs were delicious. I had not one complaint about that meal or the show.

The show is entertaining for all age groups. There is definitely something for everyone!

The second Time around, the server was a different story, nowhere near as competent or efficient. In fact I think she was a miserable person. We had a large group of 15 people and our drinks were never refilled, if we asked for more drinks, she would say well there is a little bit left in your cup when that is done I will bring More. We asked for more chicken, and salad, she went all the way to the other end of the table and asked if anyone was going to eat the one piece of chicken and brought it down to our end, we said there are 3 people who would like more please bring more chicken, she did not like that and said once everything was gone from the table then she would bring more if we were still hungry. It was ridiculous, at one point she said we would not want to be wasteful.:confused3
It was a horrible experience from start to finish, We have never had a worse server EVER. We actually took her name to make a complaint. Here we were spending our precious holiday dollars to have a special night out and she was giving the table grief over refills and more food. I secretly thought she must have been taking the second servings home with her.:rotfl:

The show was great again that night, although with all the grief our server was giving us it did kind of take away from the show. We decided to take a break from the luau this year, but I do fully intend to go back. If we were to get the same server again, I would ask for a manager immediately and have her switched.

I think everyone should expereince it at least once. I won`t let my bad experience deter us from going again, but I will learn form that experience and not allow another server to treat us that way again. After all it is an all you can eat meal and there should be no restrictions.

Hopefully this will help someone.

When my husband, [bf @ the time,in 2009] went we loved it! It was great for us 2 adults. I am more of a picky eater than he is & I really enjoyed the food. I thought it was very traditional roasted chicken & rice. The salad was different for my taste but I still liked it. Fresh pineapple was good.We enjoyed wine & beer. The fire throwers were so cool. Honestly, it's a great way to relax but still be entertained Disney style!
I'll add we didn't love our server there. He was ok but not up to WDW standards.

Wow, that would have set me off. Did Disney do anything to try to make it up to you? I'm using 2 of my TS credits for SoA and if this happened I'd be pushing for at least one of them to be given back.

We went about 2 years ago. The food was not memorable as being either great or terrible, but the show was great! My boys (6 & 8 at the time) still talk about the "fire guys." We are going again on next trip...

We have gone twice, the last time in 2009. All of us enjoyed the food and the show. It is something we don't do every trip, but it is definitely worth trying at least once.

Yikes! :scared1: Sounds like your server was the antithesis of the "Spirit of Aloha!"

If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding! How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?! :rotfl2:

My family always loved the Spirit of Aloha. The food is good and the show is cute. The best part is the fire twirler! That said, this June we went and our server was horrible. The worst we've ever had at the SOA. We won't be back for a while. I did talk to the manager on the way out about how disappointed we were with the service we received. Sadly, this was a common theme our whole trip not just this night. :sad2:

We loved it! When we went the ages of the kids :ds 11,dgd 13, dgs 6.:cool1:

We have gone twice and really enjoyed:thumbsup2 I would recommend cat 1 seating though, it's worth it. The food was good and the service great. DD really enjoyed the show last year. The year before she fell alseep after eating and missed the whole thing :goodvibes We would go agin but next I think we'll pick another show for a change. I would definately say you should try it :thumbsup2

After our first time doing the SOA Show, we HAVE to do it every year, love the show, even the 1st party, it's hoky but still like it, the food is so good and just love the overall experience! And you get a photo package!

we also loved it...
We took our son dil and two rug rats ...age 4 and 5 and they didnt move an inch from their seat during the performance..
They were even brought mac and cheese and hot dogs in case they didnt want to eat the main meal ...But they ate the chicken and ribs ..they enjoyed everything as the four adults did
