Any podcasters watching the World Cup?

Sadly, I don't have cable right now, so I'll be going to my brother's house to watch USA v. England tomorrow. He lives an hour away, so that may be the only game I get to catch. Surely I'm not the only one on here that will be following the action?

Sure are!!! DH is a massive football fan. The opening ceremonies were great, very moving and interesting...so sad for Mandela, though (his GGDaughter died in a car crash due to a drunk driver on the way home from the big concert last night, such a shame).

Mexico v. S. Africa is about to start...need to make a cup of tea and keep my hubby company. His family is Scottish, but with Scotland not qualifying just not sure yet who I will be rooting for. DS is playing for Holland this summer in his under-13 league, so there's a possibility.

I hope you get to see more games...maybe you need to find a sports pub somewhere close to home!

Agreed on the sports pub thing--although we were at a very nice restaurant/pub in a shopping mall yesterday that was advertising new hours--open at 10 a.m., and World Cup coverage on TV! DH is waiting for the first game that we get on cable here, starts at 10 a.m. today.

I hadn't heard about Mandela's situation--that is sad. There is a local forum than I'm on and they've been talking about places that will be open. Another part of the problem is that the games seem to be all in the morning/early afternoon and I have to work!

Watching South Africa vs. Mexico right now. My husband is from Germany so it will pretty much be on all day in this house. I enjoy it enough, but not nearly as much as DH

I'm really looking forward to the US/England game tomorrow. That one is going to be exciting since my DH is from England and I am American. Although since it looks like both US and England will advance through the round tomorrows game isn't the nail-bitter that it could have been -- although US winning would be awesome.

My Brother has taken over my Mother's large downstairs of her house, brought his friends from DC (where he lives) and has renamed it the World Cup Sports Bar for this weekend. They are faithfully watching all the games this weekend. We are having a bunch of people over for the US game though. That is going to be fun.

USA - England is on ABC. No cable needed. ESPN3 will also be streaming the games live so if your ISP is one that is offering ESPN3 you can watch it that way.

I'll be watching every game but since I have to work I am avoiding scores like the plague until I can go home and watch the DVRed games.

Yup, we have World Cup fever at our house! Watching what we can live and recording everything else so we can watch later. I missed recording the S Africa/Mexico game, so will be recording it in the wee hours when it rebroadcasts. We are going to a friend's house to watch US/England tomorrow. Go USA!!

With a large Central and S. American population, S. Fla. is World Cup nuts. There are specific bars/restaurants that serve as unofficial headquarters for each county. I played soccer and DD is off to soccer camp tomorrow so we are watching with interest. Rooting for US and Italy.

The S. Africa/Mexico game was a good one. Was going to say something about the game but did not want to add spoilers

ooh good point about the spoilers...I should be sensitive to that since DH will likely have to watch two games a day on tape...he works midnights.

I really enjoyed the first game as well - lots of exciting moments.

Total soccer fans here in our house! I played for 18 years and DH still plays. I remember back to when I was in high school and I had 2 requirements for anyone I would date - 1) they had to be taller than me (I know it's shallow - but I was only 16) and 2) they had to LOVE soccer. No American football players allowed!! Now our kids LOVE soccer although our oldest has a natural gift for baseball.....yawn....
Can't wait to see if the US gets the 2018 or 2022 World Cup!!! I went to a few games back in '94 and it was AMAZING!! On my bucket list is to see a World Cup game in Europe - where the game is appreciated!!

I went to a game in Dallas in '94. One of the teams was Argentina, but I don't remember the other one. I seem to remember that the stadium was only half full.

Love the world cup, although am being bored by the tepid affair that is Uruguay V France.
I think this thread will be hard to be spoiler free tho as matches will be discussed
