Any perks for renting DVC?

I am interested in renting DVC because it's a good price!

I know that you don't get maid service daily and you can't cancel.

However, are there any perks? Like the vacation club lounge or something like that?
Also, do you check in at a different location?

Erionm is mostly right. DVC check in is not always in the main building. For example, at the Contemporary Resort, you check-in at Bay Lake Tower, at the Polyesian you check in at the main lobby, but there is a DVC area, while at Saratoga Springs and Old Key West you check-in at the main building.

But don't worry, a cast member will help you get to the right spot!

Assuming you arrive during the hours the check-in desk at BLT is open. Outside of those hours (or if you arrive by DME), you check-in at the Contemporary.

No real perks other than the "Welcome Home" when you arrive. I think every resort is diff. for check in. BLT normally is separate but we had to check in at the Contemporary when we got in late. Last time at Beach Club we also had a separate check in area in the DVC building- we got to sit on a couch while a CM went over the paperwork with us and another CM played with cars on the floor with my son- that was a magical check-in.

If you arrive by DME, you check in at the CR instead of BLT for a BLT reservation. If you don't arrive by DME, you check in at BLT if they have someone there (like not late at night). Even cash reservations for BLT not arriving by DME check in at BLT (you don't have to be a DVC member - so not a DVC member perk). If you are staying at Kidani Village, you check in there. If you are staying at Jambo House, you check in there.

I believe that you can still get free laundry and parking at the resort if you rent DVC and are not a member. Specifically, staying at the Grand Californian on rented points before I was a member, I got free parking in the lot across the street and got tokens to use in the laundry room so I did not have to pay (I was staying in a studio). Hotel guests had to pay for both. It's been a while since I've stayed on rented points, so I'm not sure if those are "perks" at the resorts at Disneyworld.

All resort parking (other than valet) is free on-property whether you are DVC or not. DVC buildings have free laundry facilities that are available for use by owners.

Technically you get the perks that come with the resort and on property stay. As written, DVC can chose to extend any member perks to guests or not. Guests can be renters or otherwise. Historically they have been hit or miss in this area but in the last few years they've been more consistent and more hard line requiring documentation of membership. They'll ask for the blue card in many situations but I've never personally seen them refuse the perk with documentation that one is a member without the blue card itself. So one can always ask, just don't be surprised if the answer is no.

So, for us renters of DVC studio's, if we stay at BLT or BWV - we have to pay for our laundry machines to use?

If we have our room "key" for the BLT or BWV room, we can still get into the laundry room correct?

We would be renting a studio without a washer/dryer.

I never knew about the free laundry as members. How does that work? Go to the front desk and ask for coins?

For the DVC Resorts at WDW, the machines don't need coins/tokens. Some of the machines may have coin slots (like at a laundromat), but you can push the mechanism in without putting anything in those slots. You do need to use your MagicBand (or KTTW Card) to unlock the laundry room door.

Thank you that's great!

I think the perks that people are referring to not being extended to renters are the additional DVC member perks that go beyond the resort amenities (discounts on merchandise and water parks/party tickets, pool hopping, etc)
One restriction that would apply to renters regarding DVC resort amenities would be not being able to access the top of the world lounge at BLT even if they are staying at BLT-that strictly a member perk (assuming it is enforced)

Renters are not considered guests. DVC considers a guest to have an uncompensated stay from a member. If you paid the member, you compensated them and are not a guest of the member.
