Any other writers out there?

I've had a book idea rattling around in my head for a couple of months now and put the first chapter down tonight. Go here to read it. Don't be afraid to be totally honest about what I've put down so far..it's only a first draft and I'd like any suggestions anyone is willing to give me on how I can improve it. I"ll probably be putting down the next couple of chapters within the next week or so.

Very nice start. I think the hardest part about writing is deciding from which point of view (person) your story will be told. I've taken a few classes on writing stories and the one thing they kept drilling into our heads was to be careful not to switch person. In otherwords, if you start telling the story from one point of view, don't switch to someone else (especially in the middle of a chapter). That's much harder than it might seem.

I started a fantasy story for young teens, but didnt' get beyond the first chapter. At my class, they pointed out all of my flaws and it ruined my initiative.

TOV, Congratulations!! Getting started is the hardest part (for me anyway). I've also had some book ideas in my head and love to write so I give you a lot of credit. I only have time to read the first few lines but it kept my interest - I'll read the rest later and get back to you. Great Job!!

Good luck. The best thing to do is once you are done writing, get yourself a good literary agent.

Thanks for the info about agents, etc guys. I'm not even sure if I want to sell it once it's finished yet. Once I finally decide I'm done, I might have DH and some friends look it over and see if they think it might sell. THEN I'll talk to an agent.

In my head, I've always wanted to be a writer or a journalist. I always liked to do writing assignments in my classes in school. Those were the most fun for me...outside of science classes.

Well...I know I'm not even CLOSE to finished yet, so we'll see where the wild pen takes me.
