Any other Rook fans out there?

Rook is probably my all-time favorite card game. It's a game that has little to do with luck (although being dealt a great hand doesn't hurt), and more to do with strategy and timing.
When I was in College (many moons ago), we used to have rook tournaments all the time. I never won, but it was fun to be part of some very intense, well played games.

BTW, we used to play Rook low, to make it a bit more challenging, and yet the average bid used to go on a regular basis between 150 and 170.

Love to play Rook though it has been awhile. Grew up playing it with my grandparents! I'm a pretty easy going person, but put me in a card game and watch out!

Come on all you rook players, let's hear from you!

My dh loves to play Rook but we don't play it often. He likes to play with the Paramedics and EMTs in our Rescue Squad and they play like it is a life or death situation. They scare me sometimes. Some people refuse to play with their spouses because it causes them to argue. My Dh has threatned to make me sleep on the couch when we have played Rook.

I like Rook. I played quite a bit, but now I pretty much play it exclusively on my PC. Chris and I like to team up on Rook and Mille Bornes. I wish we could play online, but Hasbro Interactive discontinued that ability.

There's no way I would have made it through hour after hour of waiting for UNC basketball tickets without Rook cards. My usual partner and I were the ones to beat!

My DH has never really gotten into Rook, so I've not played much in recent years. When I was little, my parents played every weekend.

Do the rest of you plaly with the "1" as the highest card or lowest card (other than the bird, of course)?

I love to play Rook, but I always get partnered with my mom, and she is terrible.

Ok you Rook people.....ever hear of a Moat and Gator? Or is that something that my DF totally made up?

We do! We play Kentucky Rook rather than regular. :thumbsup2

We usually played with the 1 high, but the Rook (20 points) low (or, if you will, as a "4"). We also removed all the 2's, 3's, and 4's fromt the deck.

Nope, never heard of them, but I do know that there are many different varieties of rook, so they could very well be popuar versions.

No 2s, 3s and 4s in our deck either, but we played with the Rook counting 20 and the 1s counting 15. I've never heard that called "Kentucky Rook" -- I thought it was NC mountains Rook!

He calls it a Moat and Gator (well, we are southern, so it is more a Moat 'n Gator) when he and his partner get all of the points. When they have the rook, the ones, and capture all the point cards. He is forever making up stuff, but he totally had me going about this. He is such a goofball. :rotfl:
