I just thought I would post here and see if there are any other primary level teachers. Perhaps if there are a few of us, we could work together to share ideas, get creative, vent, share resources or just discuss. Let me know if you're out there!

Hi! :wave2:
I teach 1st grade.

(I'm counting down the days until Christmas break....only 19 school days left!)

I haven't even counted that out yet, but that's kind of scary -- there is so much to be done by then! Only one more day of Thanksgiving break left...

What are your plans to keep everybody sane before Christmas?

 Another 1st grade teacher here! Great idea for a thread...let's keep it going.....

Right now, i work at a day care center, but i graduate in may and will be able to teach up to 3rd grade

I'm going to try & keep our daily schedule as normal as possible. That will be hard some days though. We've got some fun things planned between now & Christmas......

2 field trips:
* to Cold Stone Creamery to learn how ice cream is made
* we are going to a theatre to see a stage performance of Harry the Dirty Dog. :goodvibes )

We've also got at least one fun assembly that I can think of....Ronald McDonald is coming for the Kindergarteners & 1st graders.

Anybody have any fun ideas for classroom activities (easy) to do in December?

A Read and Feed! I just did this with my 2nd graders and am doing it again the day before the break -- everybody brings slippers and blankets and a healthy snack. I provide juice, books, lamps, and pillows, as well as large blankets to cover the floor. I bring in guest readers (principals, office staff, etc.) to read from their favorite books, and the kids curl up and listen. In between, the kids curl up and read on their own or with friends. This was a huge hit for us! It was a reward for great behavior, and it was a great way to keep it educational.

Any other ideas? I need to get my Christmas Party planned! Eek!

hello!
i'm a special education kindergarten teacher. i teach children with autism. :sunny: i'm using the regular ed curriculum, i just have the advantage of a full day to teach it :) :thumbsup2 personally, i feel full-day kindergarten should be mandatory, the kids learn so much!
