i just saw on the news about Miley posing for "artsy" photos with Vanity Fair--I'm quite disappointed in her choice to do this kind of thing. And in her parents' choice to allow it. My daughter is 6 and we have been doing the Hannah thing for a long time--went to the concert, watch the show, have the dolls, clothes etc..

But we won't be having the Hannah birthday party we had planned or redecorating her room in Hannah now!!

Anybody have any thoughts/opinions??
:confused3

Personally, I think she's fifteen, and most fifteen year olds will make stupid decisions if they're not given guidance to do otherwise. I'm more ashamed of all of the other people in the room that thought this was okay. Her parents, handlers, Annie Lebowitz (sp?), and Vanity Fair magazine for publishing the photo just to cause a scandal.

Guess what people? Fifteen year olds aren't sexy, they're still kids. And it's nothing short of grossly exploitative to try to make them anything different. If someone's dad had taken that picture and posted it on the internet, he'd be in jail about now.

Not a mom but a dad that is disappointed. Not so much in Miley but for her parents for allowing this to happen. Kids make mistakes. It's the parents that should be making the right decisions for her.

ITA. Very disappointing that all of these adults would allow this to happen in the first place and then to publish it instead of saying "Whoa... we may have gone too far here, let's shoot some alternate photos."

We too, have been going totally Hannah crazy for the past year or so, but with this and all the other things that have come out with Miley in the past few months, I'm definitely starting to try to distance the girls from it a little. I've been hoping that Miley would continue to make positive choices in her life and not end up like so many other teen stars these days. I still think she can do it, but she and her family need to get a handle on these relatively minor incidents asap. I wish Miley and her family only the best.

I am glad DD9 will not see these pictures, since the Vanity Fair audience is more adult in general. I am disappointed in Miley and her parents for contradicting themselves though. On one hand they talk about purity and keeping her grounded and on the other hand they allow for a near topless photo. Even if it was only her back showing, it is the intent and the suggestive manner that is just as bad. Miley didn't need to do this, she is popular and loved by her fans. This was so unnecessary.

Forget the Vanity Fair spread, what about all the semi-topless shots she took of herself that are all over the internet. One shes in just a bra laying across some boys lap, and there are others of her in her bra and panties, and one with her pulling her shirt down to show her bra! Real great parenting there!

I'm disappointed in Disney's reaction. They really need to hold higher standards for their stars who are role models to such young, impressionable children.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think nudity = sex, sexy, or anything "bad"
I honestly think it's a honest, raw, portrait of her. That's kind of what the photographer is known for.
It's not sugar and spice and everything nice, not something for the kiddo's maybe, but then again it's in Vanity Fair, that's a pretty upscale adult audience.

I feel like the press has just been waiting for a chance to pounce and tarnish her image. I'm disappointed people let that happen. Miley is 15, she needs people to monitor her and give her guidance.

There are a whole lot of people to blame here. Shame on the photographer and vanity fair for taking advantage of an impressionable girl.

I'm disappointed this happend but feel there are a lot more people to blame than Miley herself. I'm not saying she did the right thing, obviously not. But 15 is still a child.

Hate to say it, but I think Miley is growing up. At 15, it's probably not as "cool" as it was a year or two ago to be looked up to by thousands of 6 year olds.

I would guess they're (parents, managers, Miley, etc) maybe trying to cross the line from kiddie-star to more of a teen image.

She apoligized said she made a mistake. IT happens. As for the adult Miley said they weren't present for the whole shoot. Bad mistake yes. She is human and so are her parents.

My niece turned 13 last year and my SIL took all 3 kids to the Wal-Mart photo studio for their annual pics (they were 10, 12, and 13). The female *photographer* thought it would be cute for my niece to lower her tank top straps and have her look back over her shoulder for a "sexy" shot. My SIL thought it was cute... I was appalled because the photo insinuated that she was topless.

That being said, I think Miley and her parents were probably not in the right state of mind when they allowed the photo to happen.... most likely thinking it was innocent as my niece probably did last year.... then the results are perceived to be worse by the viewer of the photo.

My daughters (5 and 7) have yet to see the photos of Miley and I think (hope) they are innocent enough to believe that it's not more than what it is~a stupid mistake.

It is a very sad state that we are in these days with all these bright young stars getting into all the trouble that they are. However, in this case, I have to feel sorry for Miley. She probably trusts her father and looks to him for guidence. He was at the shoot from my understanding and stood by and watched these pics be taken. That slightly discusts me. For the PP that said 15 year olds are still children...they certainly are! And as a DFCS worker, if pics like this were taken of children that came into state custody, the parents would be charged with child pornography. Why was Billy Ray Cyrus OK with this? Many questions have been raised and I think it should be investigated!

Frankly, I'm surprised by how many parents are surprised. Isn't this all old news? Remember Britney Spears, Jamie-Lynn Spears, Lindsay Lohan ...? First off, I don't like the pictures and think her parents are to blame for not keeping better control over her career, but then again, the gravy train is running, why get in the way? I think most of these parents become enamoured of the attention they get through their children. Remember Brooke Shields' mom? On the other hand, I have a hard time swallowing the "role model" tag. This kid never wanted to be a role model. She wanted to be rich and famous, and that's exactly what she's gotten. Can't imagine that she won't be used up and washed up in the not too distant future 'cause let's face it, she's not all that talented, not really. She'll burn out just like the rest of these teen superstars and there will be another young kid with a scandal in the headlines. Just try to be real for your own kids, don't make these teenage superstars seem like the end-all-be all for your kids. They need to know they're just kids, just like them, and they're going to make mistakes. Going out of your way to buy them $200-$300 concert tickets just enforces the fact that you too think this kids are something special and worth the price of admission. (JMHO)

I am not sure I am dissapointed in Miley as much as her parents. :sad1: She is only 15 and is doing 15 year old stuff. I don't think the photo shoot was appropriate for a child. I think that is totally uncalled for. Who reads that magazine, adults do. Do we really need to she a 15 yr old girl half naked? :sad2: I don't think so. My DD want's to be her. I will let her still watch the show and enjoy her HM music and some of the Miley music, but we will NOT be purchasing the Vanity Fair magazine. :sad2:

That wasn't her. It was a look alike trying to bank on her. It was in the news.

And there were more before that one... one in her undies on her bed, another that had something to do with her tongue and her best friends.

Where are the parents? :confused3 Riding on her (financial) shirt-tail, that's where?!

Can't believe that this isn't considered child pornography.

I respectfully disagree in this particular case. While nudity in and of itself does not = sex, this particular photo seems to me to be set up very intentionally to be sexual. The whole image is contrived. It's not just that it's a backless shot. Perhaps she could even get away with that expression in another shot, but the satin bedsheets, bed hair, and red lipstick are all things that have come to be associated with sexuality in western culture. There is plenty of time for this particular brand of raw, honest portraits when she can vote. She's a pretty girl, and there are so many other ways the photographer could have chosen to express that which wouldn't have caused any turmoil at all.

I'm not trying to be offensive, I just don't think this was an appropriate set-up for a fifteen year old.

I am not disappointed in Miley, she is 15. Her parents should have stepped in on this one. From what I know about this sort of thing, there should have been all kinds of adults at the photo shoot, parents, PR reps, Disney Reps, that should have stepped in and said that the photographer had gone too far. Vanity Fair should not have even considered printing photos of that nature of a 15 year old girl.
