Any other Independence Air ticketholders...

Most of that is required by the law, but they were actually not required to extend it to flights from the co-terminal. Looks like they're making a play to take over Independence's old customers, long-term.

We reallu lucked out of our fly i tickets. As soon as they filed we started looking for new tickets and bought them through Jet Blue for $39 one way. Then a few weeks ago Fly i announced they were not flying from Manchester anymore and they had to refund our money.

They tried to get us to fly from Boston and we said no thanks! They issued our refund to our card in days.

I hope you all get your refunds and fast.

As soon as I read about this on the DIS, we immediately started researching our various options. My DH is a premier member on United, we decided to hold two different bookings overnight to see what would happen.

We ended up getting a TED/United non-stop/direct flight that leaves Dulles later :worried: departure day but also leaves Florida later :goodvibes for only about $60 more(total) for the three of us. We wanted to lock in a direct/non-stop out of one of the three Washigton airports. After finding out what the airlines are *obligated* to do as a matter of law we were concerned that we could possibly get a multi-stop flight or a long-layover for $300 more total($50 each, each way) :earseek: . We considered any possible credit card refund as a separate isuue from our travel to WDW later this month. The major school system up here in Northern Virginia has two days off that weekend, so a lot of families will be travelling. Desirable flights on other airlines are going to get booked up *fast*!

I heard on the news yesterday that the bankruptcy court has now given Independence Air permission to refund all advance purchase tickets. We contacted IA as soon as we heard about the shut-down & as of Tuesday afternoon it seems that our refund was processed on their end. We are monitoring our cc to confirm that the money has indeed been refunded.

agnes!

I'm in the same situation; we'll be heading to Orlando over that same four day weekend.

Where did you hear that the bankruptcy court has authoized refunds?? Flyi website has no info on that.

I re-ticketed on USAirways on Jan 1. I need to contact them to see if their policy, quoted above by DebbieB, can apply to us.

Wow. I wonder what the secured creditors will say about that!

They also got permission to pay $4.4 mill to 165 employees to wind down the business (minimal retention bonuses)... This looks to be a much more orderly end than we've seen the last few times an airline has bit the dust.

I suspect that's more a reflection of the small size of the airline and perhaps its relative youth, than any indication of what's to come with future airline terminations.

$50 per person standby one way from 5 days before originally scheduled flight date up to flight date. You can also confirm for $100 per person for a one way flight. Or if the regular or sale fare is lower you can confirm at the lower rate. Once you confirm you're held to the same policies as other confirmed passengers $50 per person to cancel, change etc. If you can confirm you can do the online check in and if you standby you have to check in at the airport. I assume it's pretty much the same with other carriers. I work for Airtran and we've been pretty busy for the last few days. And flights are filling up pretty quickly, not only with us but I've heard through other carriers as well. So whatever route you go, or what airline, try to get it taken care of ASAP. Hope everybody gets a refund of their tickets, finds alternate travel arrangements, and has a GREAT time at WDW! :earsboy: :goodvibes

We got our refund from them. Yeah we did rebook with ted out of Dulles.
How did you get your refund? Did you have to inquire, or did you just 'get it' ?

I am glad people will get refunded and employees will get some pay. I mostly feel bad for all the employees who are now jobless. Its funny they offered my mom a job several weeks ago and she declined it. She was offered a better job with delta.

Anyways I think next possible airline shut down could be NWA. Dont take my word as holy but I think a big airline unforturnately needs to go, the airline market is overly inflated. I dont think it will be Delta, because they are to much of "major" usa airline and the goverment wouldnt let it happen. I think we wont have NWA by the end of this year, a merger is possible.

Matt

I think you'd have a major court case if they let NWA go under, after letting United, US Airways and Delta survive. Once they let US Airways live, they basically established precedent that it will take years to get past.

Regarding my billing dispute with Flyi on my American Express card ....

I've been officially credited back my $$. One less thing to worry about now.

So glad to hear some of you are getting your money back or credited. I am in a little different situation with IA. I had a 277.00 credit with them from last year when I had to cancel a flight because of health problems. When I called them a couple of weeks ago they said I could file the form on their website which I am in the process of doing. Anybody else in this similar situation and know anything else?

I think NWA is too big to go totally under, they are a worldwide carrier. I heard someone say last week that they may merge with Delta.
