I am catching up on all the new things happenning and as a Florida resident (native I might add) I am thinking that there really is NO added benefits for being a resident....well, seasonal passes....

it seems all the things offered to us as a "Florida" resident are also offered to AP holders....

we should get some additional benefits for all the additional tourism we have to fight.......

not trying to start a debate or anything, but it just doesn't seem fair.

You want to move to New Jersey and fly or drive to WDW every year????

I'd gladly switch places with you.

Florida has no personal income tax, probably because of the tax money collected off tourism. I pay 3% to the state of PA, there are no exemptions and few deductions allowed.

I'll second that one!!!!! Added benifits??? You can go to Disney whenever you want...wish I had that benefit!!!!

I'm from NY State - Here our Income Tax is roughly 9.5%. I spend an awful lot of money in FL with multiple trips a year which puts money in the coffers that you don't have to. I'd say that's a pretty nice benefit. Wish I lived in a Income Tax Free State & was able to drive to WDW whenever I wanted to. Yep, that sure would be a Blessing.

I respectfully disagree. I think that getting the benefits as far as room rates go without being an AP holder is a good perk for being a resident. Plus the AP is discounted for us if we want them too. And my family have the after 4:00 passes to Epcot, which were available to Florida residents only. The Disney Cruiseline offers discounts to Florida Residents as well during certain months.

Plus, we do get to drive over as often as we like. :flower1:

Disney perks and the beaches are the only reasons I can stand to live here.

Agreed.... costs my family AT LEAST $1000 to fly to WDW from Maine...

Well - the beaches yes...that is where I live and love it...don't love the season though.

I was not trying to start a debate or have unkind words said - as far as all who live in taxed states - you can move here and enjoy that benefit....

but having lived here all my life and enjoyed the seasonal passes for most of it, aside from the Fl rates on cruises - which, if you don't cruise, have NOTHING to do with WDW trips, the after 4 passes, which if you don't live that close to Orlando, are not really good and a couple other things there isn't much added benefit other than being close.

I guess this all stemmed from a letter Disney sent me that wanted to thank me for my years of loyalty to Disney etc and offering me a special renewal rate....

Why isn't it fair? None of the FL resident benefits have been taken away! And in addition, all of the new programs/perks are available to Florida residents as well as to others - thery are not exclusive to non-Florida residents.

Surely you don't begrudge the rest of us some discounts, do you?

FWIW, tourism is a HUGE benefit to Florida - it makes up a large part of the state's economy. It's a blessing, not something you "have to fight". If it weren't for the large numbers of tourists that visit Disney from outside of FLorida, Disney would not exist as we know it today.

Best wishes -

Why should there even be any in-state benefits of any kind? Answer; only if it benefits WDW financially. Obviously they are doing well enough to not have to provide local incentives any more than they have been

No, not feeling slighted here. I can see where you might.
As others posted I feel lucky to be able to go to WDW or other attractions fairly easily. (As a tourist I sometimes wonder if I spent as much time in the parks as a resident, after household duties and working... But VERY glad not to have to fly here or pay hotel rates any longer.)
I know how expensive WDW vacations can be. Hopefully if WDW vacations become more affordable, more will visit. I see that as a plus for our economy. :)
I think Disney should have offered something like DDE all along. It should even be part of an AP. Not an additional purchase, I think.

I sorry you're upset about non-resident AP holders being allowed to purchase the DDE. However, I have been an AP holder for years. I have paid substantially more for that AP than a FL resident, and no doubt still am able to get fewer park days out of it than an average Floridian. Add to that travel expense, lodging expense, and full price dining - as DVCers are not eligible for other Disney Dining plans. I'm thrilled to be able to purchase the DDE, we now may enjoy more of the Signature restaurants - and leave more $$$ in FL.

tourons are a neccessary evil. besides, those peak seasons, I don't want to be in the parks anyway. I'll be on a beach or strapping on dive gear. I get to enjoy the parks at low crowds, and FL resident rates always beat my AP rates if we decide to stay on property. Universal does treat their AP holders better than WDW, but WDW counts on your blind loyalty. make GPS systems mandatory on rental cars, and I'll be happy. my wife agrees that FL residents should get better deals, but what are we going to do? it's not bad.

this reminds me of a lesson I use in my classes:

A person walks up to a group consisting of you and 9 friends and says, "to day is your lucky day!" To 9 of you he hands 10 dollars. To one person he hands 1000 dollars.

You are one of the people recieving 10 dollars. Are you upset?

Most people say "yes". But, it makes no sense. You are getting something ($10 or the DDE discount) for nothing. You recieved something simply because you happened to be somewhere at the right time. Why would you care about what someone else recieves? You ought to be happy for the 10 dollars, & happy for the person recieving the 1000....not angry at them or "slighted" because it wasn't you.

This is all too common in our society...Something to think about...

Since you directed your question to Florida residents, I feel I can legitimately respond. No offense to others, but how could you possibly feel slighted, if you're not a Fl. resident. To me personally, as long as they don't cut the resident discounts, I think the more people who can save the better. I just hate it, when people flame others, when they're not even answering the question posed. :confused3 I will say that we have lived here 8 years, and just recently have we been forcing ourselves to leave the state for vacation. It's just so much easier to travel within the state, but we now feel like we are missing so much of what this World has to offer. My family definitely spends much more money at WDW & Universal, than we would if we weren't a Fl. resident. When we want a weekend getaway, WDW/Universal gets our money. When we plan a 2 week stay, it's just so convenient to drive an hour and park the car, and not worry about driving for 2 weeks. Again, WDW/Universal gets our money. I'm all up for everyone saving money, but please don't belittle anothers feelings. JMO :)

I see...unless you are exactly like someone else, you can't possibly have an insight :rolleyes1

No flames at all to the op, just wanting people to think rather than simply emote....

I am originally from vero beach, Fl. I lived there for 26 out of my 34 years of life. I also am a DVC member. I am finally happy that disney is making these changes. We spend a lot of money on our dvc,. not to mention our annual dues. I would have remained in Fl if I could made a decent living and supported myself very well to this day. I will eventually be moving back, so watch our snowbirds the true floridians still have a home. My whole family still lives in that state. Without tourism and the money that outsiders from all over the world bring to the state of FL, Fl would not be anything. So I would not be gripping since we are giving the floridians a somewhat of a paycheck. As everyone knows you can not may a decent living in Fl unless if you own and operate your own business. Take this from someone who knows. That is how my whole family has made it, we own several of the indian river citrus crops. I hope everyone enjoys the oranges!!

this will be me going back home one day :boat:

go sail away, go sail away. . . . . .how many years to retirement?????

Actually I believe the buy 2 get 3 will make the "Play Four Days"a thing of the past.

Not necessarily, I work for a company that pays me very well, gives me a car to drive, company credit card, and a company provided cell phone.

I never understood Florida discounts at WDW or Southern California discounts at DL. It seems like it treats different people differently in an unfair way. They wouldn't get away with offering the same services at different prices to different ethnic groups or to different genders. What if they said there is a discount for blondes and red-heads but brown and black haired people must pay full price. The unfairness of this discounting practice is most evident at Disneyland where only certain zip codes qualify as Southern California. If you live one town too far north, but still in California, you don't qualify for a discount. Why should Florida panhandle residents be treated better than residents of bordering states or residents of Wisconsin or Maine for that matter?

I may sound silly, but I'm serious in my confusion over this matter.

If you want to make a decent six digit figure or above not in Fl, if there is a great job let me know and i'll come back.
