It seems that around here (Dartmouth, NS) we are the token "Disney Family". Any time any one is going to Disney they contact us to help them plan their trip. And of course we don't mind one bit!

We have a lot of Disney stuff and are contemplating decorating the house in Disney, but I don't want it to look to child like.

Our Christmas stuff is mostly all Disney all ready.

Oldest dd's room is Princess, but she wants it redone as her favorite now is Hillary Duff. Baby dd's room is Bambi, but looking very sparce as we don't have any pictures of Bambi.

We have Pooh Bear silverware and salt and pepper shakers.

They know us at the Disney Store.

Any ideas on how to decorate Disney and not have it look to childish?

First of all, you're not crazy -- just a normal Disney nut. BIG difference!! :goodvibes

I was (am?) thinking about decorating our basement powder room like a room in Mickey's House in Toontown (wall colors, etc.). I've been collecting Disney stuff since I was a kid, and I need to get them out of the boxes in the basement! I don't know if this is childish, but fun for a basement.

The thing I've learned from watching too much HGTV is to place collections together in groupings so it looks like a collection and not something haphazard.

You could display your memorabilia in shadow boxes, which you can get at craft stores and paint/stain to match any room's decor. If you have nice posters, you can place them anywhere, if they're in nice frames. (Tip: if they're large, consider using plexiglass instead of glass. It's lighter and won't bread -- speaking from experience here!) Make a nice grouping in a hallway or a room. Some people collect and display folk art, have a contemporary design to their houses; we normal people collect Disneyana! :earsgirl: Woo hoo!

Was this any help? Or have I just rambled on and on and on...

We are Disney crazy also. Similar situation, people call us for advice also. We have been able to convince several friends to take their family there and while they had fun, they acted like it was "just another theme park". IMHO you really have to believe in the magic or it is not real. We watch our WDW vacation videos about as much as we watch our purchased Disney movies. On of my favorite items is a framed Disney dollar which I had Mickey autograph. I had to try three Mickeys before one would "deface" his own money.

I am a total disney nut. When I first met my husband he had never been there and now he wants to move and work there!! I haven't made up my mind yet. But people are always asking me about trip planning and even if they don't ask and I know they're going I offer it up anyway! I want to do my kitchen in disney, in fact I'm starting that on our next trip. :cool1:

We are the same way! The token Disney family! LOL! :earboy2:

Our kitchen is decorated in Mickey - Mickey valance, Mickey cookie jar, canister set, teapot, etc. I LOVE IT! I am thinking of decorating our downstairs powder room in some kind of Magic Kingdom theme. Not sure where I'm going with this....maybe an "It's a Small World" poster...ya know, since it's such a small room. I'm weird! :rotfl2:

My oldest's room is princesses, my younger two share a room and their's is decorated with The Wiggles.

Have fun decorating your Disney home! :wizard:

My home is slowly being redecorated into "early Disney". You've got to put the stuff you buy at the parks somewhere. Bought a litho, debating where to hang it - afraid my decor will soon be "over the top".

Ever notice once people figure out you "collect" something, you receive lots of it for presents? A good thing!

Daxx's Wife here. Anytime anyone needs Disney trip info., they come to us. We are the token Disney family of our neighborhood. And, I've even helped friends of friends b/c they've recommended us as Disney addicts. I enjoy every last second of it!

I would love a room in my house to be Disney-esque but the red/black/yellow motif do not go with the colors in my home. So, what I've done is find some things that do go w/the colors I have. I have a darling postcard of Minnie Mouse putting on make-up that hangs in my downstairs bath. The colors are more subtle and it works. I also plan on getting the blue Mickey icon sink plug/drainer thing. Even though my kitchen isn't blue, I just have to have it. It will make doing the dishes a bit more pleasant until we redo the kitchen and get the dishwasher put in!

I love Disney and am proud of it! ::MickeyMo

I think that decorating around a poster/postcard, etc. is a wonderful idea. DD's room is decorated around a poster I got at DL years ago of the original drawing of Sleeping Beauty's castle, which hangs over her bed. She has a Tinkerbell comforter set from the Disney Store that doesn't really match it, but who cares. She loves it and that's all that counts! I'm also thinking about draping some tulle netting from the ceiling, behind the poster for a more enchanting look. (That is, when I can find the time! :rotfl: )

I'm hoping that DL will sell a poster of the castle decorated for the 50th like they're showing on their website. The illustration is just beautiful! I never got to the art of Disney store when we were just in DW :guilty: -- just ran out of time! Something to look forward to the next trip.

It took DH's parents a bit to get used to the Disney nut in me. They were kinda shocked when I had Mickey & Minnie for our wedding cake topper. But they must've understood, because now it is 8 years later & my they just took us with them to DW for vacation! :flower:

I am glad I am not alone.

I am finding it hard to strike the balance in my decorating. I think I have more of a classic decorating style, but we love Disney SSSSOOOOOO much.

We are going again at the beginning of December and I can hardly wait. It is barely spring and I am thinking of Christmas!

Disney Nuts!!! You betcha!

Leaving in July for my 39th trip to The Happiest Place on Earth.

DD is 5 and this will be her 5th trip (really 6th if you count when I was pregnant with her)
