Any other Dachshund lovers out there? Tell me about yours!

We have had "weinie" dogs since my daughter was a little girl and she is 28 yrs old now. Our current one is a red female named "Heidi". We had 2 for 7 yrs but we just lost our male in May to nasal cancer. He was so fun and full of personality. Heidi is very laid back and independent. She is a big girl weighing in at 36.5 lbs about 2 months ago. We have had her on a diet and think she has lost a couple of pounds. Food is the only thing she gets excited about! We are going to Disney in December for 10 days and are worried about leaving her at the kennel as she has never been alone.

okay, mostly I love mine, as long as he contains his bad habits. He barks at everything moving on his walks (thinks hes a big mean dog), he chews up little plastic things which seem to appear magically, and he is always underfoot. I still love him, he is black and tan and likes to be around me. He likes food too but not as much as the terrier does. Likes to sleep under blankets, even in summer.

My first and only dog of my entire life was a dachshund. I got him when I was 8 and he died when I was 21. I was traumatized by his death, it tore me to pieces. I have never had another dog because of it.

His name was Peppy. I named him after Peppy La Pew, the cartoon character! I LOOOOOOVED that little dog, he was the perfect pet! He protected me and my sister, even from our parents! If my Mom yelled at us he would bark at her. Of course she'd just yell at him and he'd jump into my arms shivering! I just adored that dog!
