Any opinions on Six Flags St. Louis?

DD6 brought home a coupon today for $19.95 adult tickets. She also won a free child's ticket at school. The catch is that these need to be used in less than 2 weeks. DD has never been to any amusement park (our first trip to wdw will be in Dec.). DH and I have been to Six Flags Great America , but it was about 12 years ago, we've never been to the St Louis park (we always chose to go to Kings Island, but haven't been there either since DD was born). It would be about a 4 hour drive, and we'd stay overnight. BIL may go, and pay half the gas and a third of the hotel. Any opinions on if it would be worth it to go?

I went to Six Flags St. Louis last season. It was a nice park, but 3 of the coasters are pretty rough -- Ninja, the Boss, and the Screaming Eagle. I liked Mr. Freeze and the Mine Ride there. Still, I'd rather drive 5 more hours and go to Silver Dollar City and Celebration City in Brason. The parks have better customer service than Disney! (don't faint! :) )

I only live 15 minutes away, so it's easy for me to go. But, I don't think I would drive 4 hours for it. If you're comparing to Great America and Kings Island you're going to be very disappointed.

There are two good roller coasters (Mr Freeze and Batman), which your daughter probably wouldn't be able to ride. I'm not sure what age kids start riding coasters, but those are pretty big ones. There's a small mine ride roller coaster which she would probably be fine with and is a good ride. The others (that WMBarry mentioned) are really jerky, like he said.

As for other rides, there's really nothing special. They have the standard water rides and other amusement things. Oh, also Hurricane Harbor water park is included in the price of park admission.

As for hotels, there's a nice Holiday Inn right there with an indoor pool. I think they have a free shuttle to the park, so you won't have to worry about parking.

If you're trying to get your daughter "warmed up" for disney, you could try it. I would check out the website www.sixflags.com and just see what rides/attractions they have and see if it all interests you.

I have only been to Six Flags St. Louis one time since going to WDW. It may have also been my LAST time. When I was younger (Before going to Disney) I thought it was the greatest place on Earth. I have sinced changed my opinion. I'm now a "Pooh Sized" adult so for me it is a waste of money since I can't ride anything. As I stated in another post I tried but was asked to get off the ride and was humiliated. The staff is nice I guess but they just don't have that Disney disposition. For instance if you get there right when the park opens they begin letting people in a few minutes before everything opens. I was with my sister, her husband and a friend and his wife of my Brother-in-Law. I was in one of the shops that adjoin to the ice cream shop and we decided to take a short cut through there. The floor was wet, I guess they just mopped it before they opened and not bothered to put out signs. There were two girls standing behind a counter and when I hit the water I went down - being pooh sized I went down hard. I'm sure it must have been a comical sight for them but when I got up they were just staring at me and did not bother to even ask if I was ok. They just went on about their business. Maybe Disney's hospitality spoils their guests from going other places but their carelessness really turned me off.

If you live in central IL, there's a lot better options in your area, like:

Six Flags Great America
Indiana Beach
Holiday World
Adventureland (in IA)
Cedar Point

You can look up these parks at www.rcdb.com

I stayed at the Holiday Inn a few weeks ago and it was not bad. I have season passes this year. The park is small and not alot of rides but since it is close it is where we go.

Just got back from Branson too. Now that was FUN!

I would rather go to Cedar Point and stay at Hotel Breakers.

Thanks for the sites WMB! :smooth:

I've been there a couple times. It's definitely not worth a long drive. You have no idea how disappointing it is to go there after having been to Disney World. :) It's not a very clean park, and there's not many rides. I would bet money that St. Louis' Six Flags is one of the worst in the country.

We went there last summer because my dd had a free ticket. If you go there without great expectations, it would probably be okay. I agree with the others about the roller coasters. I will NEVER ride the Screamin' Eagle again and the Boss about shook my teeth out of my head. Even my 7 yr old dd at the time said it gave her a headache and she LOVES roller coasters. I think the food prices are outrageous and the food is not very good. We took a cooler and ate back at the car after we left.

Now, having complained about all of that, I will be there sometime this summer because both dd's have free tickets and they have to be used by 8/14. I have to psyche myself up that it isn't even comparable to WDW or even Silver Dollar City.

I have also found the $19.95 adult tickets and trust me, you don't want to pay anymore than that to get in.

Can you use the ticket for Great America in Chicago. I thought those tickets were pretty much universal. Great America has added a lot of great children's area's and nice shows. You can be at the park all day and not ride one roller coaster. There is plenty to do with a six year old. Right now they are advertising $25 with a coke can and you wouldn't have to stay over nite.

If you want to go to a good park for $20, head up to Michigan and visit Michigan's Adventure. You get about 6 coasters there and a waterpark. I found the park a lot better than Six Flags St. Louis. Plus you get the awesome airtime on Shivering Timbers! It normally costs $23 to get in, but I think with a AAA coupon or a $3 off coupon from Cedar Point's Getaway Guide, you can get in for $20.

Thanks for all the replies, I hadn't checked on this thread for awhile.

The vouchers were only valid at St. Louis. We did go, and added on a trip to the zoo before coming home. The lines at Six Flags were practically non-existant, DD was able to ride everything she wanted 3 or 4 times each. The biggest coaster she was able to ride was the Eagle, and she enjoyed everything she rode. She would have liked to go on the bigger rides, but she's short for her age. We were glad we took our own food to eat, the park food was even higher than I expected. With the zoo being free, the trip didn't cost us very much. DD handled the drive very well, so now I know she'll be o.k. for the drive to wdw. I know that other parks would have been better, I would have chosen to go to King's Island, but it would have cost us much more.

Sounds like you did fine. Did you enjoy the zoo? I've lived here my whole life and went to the zoo as a child and have watched it evolve through the years. I am quite proud of it. Alot of construction still going on, which can cause inconveniences when visiting, but that's progress.:D

The zoo was great! :) DD was able to see many new animals (our closest zoo is very small). It was very hot that day, would have liked to stay a few hours longer. We'll have to go back sometime in cooler weather.
