My family, 3yr, 5yr, 15yr, 17yr, 19yr olds and 6 adults. We are doing Chef Micky(dinner), Breakfastsaurus and possibly Crystal Palace.
I wanted to do a show but not sure which one to do. The Aloha sounds best to me. Need some opinions.
Thanks,
jcm

I am also wondering about the Luau show. We are going at christmas time however and it may be too cold out. I hear good reviews of this dining experience- when are you going?? We will probably end up going to Ohana's instead- been there before and loved it, especially Cousin Joe, our waiter, he was awesome and the food is great!!!!!!!!!

Our family went to the Aloha Dinner show during a grand gathering vacation and we all loved it. The ages ranged from 3 to 53 and and even the teenagers thought it was great. It's definately worth it - I'm sure your family would have a blast!

We are going in June. My wife has a meeting and we thought we would tack on a vacation. Normally go in Jan. There are 11 of us so I'm hoping some at least will like it. Being from OK the Hoop Dee Do doesn't really interest me. However, the kids are the ones I want to please.
I've been three times before and never done a character meal. We are going to this time. Chef Micky, Crystal Palace and Restaurantsaurus and we will probably skip one of them.
It has been hard to find reports on Aloha.

I don't have a recent report (we were at that show in Sept. 1994).

Back then the food was so horrible and the show was so lame that we've never returned (although we've been to WDW about 12 times since then).

Are you doing the Hoop De Doo Review? You might want to check it out - we've been there many times and always loved it. We went with a group last year including 8 adults and 5 kids.

I also went in the early 90's and the dinner show has changed a great deal since then. Some were upset over the change, but I thought it was a great improvement. I've been to this show twice since 2001 and I love it. I don't remember what the food was like in the 90's, but its my favorite meal in all of Disney now. I'm not a huge fan of the storyline of the show, but it's cute, and I'm more interested in watching the dances anyway (especially the guy with the fire).

We went this past December and it was WONDERFUL.

They assign seating based on when you call, so the earlier you call, the closer to the front you'll be. The show has been updated and is great -- lots of traditional dances (an amazing fire dance) and a fun mix in of Lilo and Stitch music (I won't say more so I don't spoil it). If your trip is coming up very soon, just know that will mean seats toward the back, which might not be as much fun.

The food is decent -- lots of it, family style.

We loved this(DH, DS - 7, and me) and would highly recommend it.

Thanks for the info. We are going in June and I have already booked and paid for.
Sounds like it will be fine.

Bleeps,

when in December did you go?? Our trip is scheduled from 12/12-12/19 and I am worried about it being too cold. How was the weather for you?? Do they cancel the show because of cold weather. I am used to the cold being from the north but I don't want to freeze the tushie off, lol.

MY DS AND HIS DGF JUST WENT! They said it was awesome! They went during their college spring break March 8, 2006.
They said the food was fabulous and the show was thrilling.
I was nervous when they told me they had booked that as one of their dinner shows as I had not heard much about it in years. I actually Posted on here and no one could really give me any info....well they INSISTED on keeping the ressie for the LUAU and they said they LOVED IT!!

The had souvenir photos taken, the CM Servers were wonderful and the people they sat with at their table could not have been nicer.

ALL IN ALL :thumbsup2

HOPE THIS HELPS!!! :sunny:

I went a few years ago, and it was wonderful! I wish I had a bigger stomach for all the great food. And I thought the show was very enjoyable. I'd go again. :thumbsup2 The main resturant Ohana's is also very good.

I have gone to the Luau on almost every trip. I was there twice in 2005 - Jan and Dec. During the Dec trip some of the late shows were cancelled due to the cold.

So it would be better to attend the early show is what I am thinking? Makes sense to me. I am being a complete whissie as far as the cold because I live up north in the arctic zone- snowy winters galore....

We have done the Luau show three times and always enjoyed the food & show. We have also done the Hoop De Doo review and enjoyed it also.

It is dark outside during the early show (in Dec) so you don't lose the atmosphere. If you don't mind eating early, I would go to the first show. During my trip in Dec (17-23) it was chilly most nights, upper 30s if I recall. I think the late show was cancelled 3 nights out of the 7 I was there. The cold does not bother me - normally - but when I am at the parks, I really don't feel like wearing a heavy coat, gloves and a hat. When we went on the Steam Train tour, which starts at 7 AM, it was 36 degrees.

We saw the old one when we went in 2002!! I don't know that I like the new one as much as I like the older one personally.

Also I wonder how true it is that you get better seats the earlier you call in 2002 I know I made reservations like 2 weeks ahead of time and we had great seats. Same thing in 2004 I made the ressies about a month ahead of time and had good seats.

Will the show hold the attention of a 5 year old. I read that the show was long, but my family will be staying at the Poly in January, so we want to make sure that we enjoy the theme meals. ALso, does anyone know what time the early show is?

I think the early show is at 5:15. The show is around 2 hours long, the food starts soon after you are seated. I was there once with my kids and my brothers kids, the youngest two being 6 and 8 - both girls. All the older kids did fine, but the younger ones had a hard time keeping it together for the whole show. The fire dance, which is toward the end, kept everyone's attention.

Thank you. That is good to know.
