Any opinions of www.hotwire.com and disneyland area hotels?

I'd use the websites that offer deals you can see. There are too many sub-standard resorts you could get stuck on without knowing the exact place in that area. If you were to choose a 4-star, as an example, which I don't think is even possible, you will find yourself not staying in Anahiem.

For the $10 to$20/night savings, it's not worth it. Also, their idea of being close to Disneyland doesn't always match my idea.

If you do it anyway, I'd like to hear what you end up with out of curiousity.

I've used both Hotwire and Priceline although never in the Anaheim area since I live about 30 mins. away. You need to do some research before using either. You can get a fair idea of what hotels both sites offer by checking these boards: www.biddingfortravel.com and www.betterbidding.com. The former only deals with Priceline bidding, the latter both. Bidding for travel also has hotel reviews as does www.tripadvisor.com.

After reviewing the hotels that have been reported won in the past, if there is one hotel I'm not willing to accept in the area I've chosen; I don't bid. If all of the choices are acceptable, then I bid knowing that I take the chance of getting a hotel that has never been reported won before. A lot depends on your personality and what you're willing to accept. For 50 - 70% off the best available rate, I'm willing to gamble a little although I really don't feel I'm gambling a lot after doing research. If you need to know exactly which hotel you'll be getting, Hotwire and Priceline are not for you.

I bid (Priceline) for a 2 1/2 hotel in the Disneyland area last week figuring I would get the Hilton Garden Inn (based on biddingfortravel.com research) for $35 (no parking charges like you get dinged for at 3 star). Sure enough that's what I got. If the web rate is $99 for this hotel, chances are you will be successful.

In the past, I've also bid for 3 star and received Marriott and Hyatt for under $40 per night. IMO, the only 3 star that isn't worthy of the rating is the Radisson (but I've never received it, this is based on others experience). But you must keep things in perspective...your only spending $30-40 per night...you can't come close to that for a dive near DL.

Good luck.

I am not a big fan of hotwire or priceline, had a bad experience with each.

Try the HoJo Anaheim, http://www.hojoanaheim.com/info/whatsnew.htm

They are right accross the street from Tomorrowland, a 5 - 7 minute walk to the main gates. The hotel is clean and very well maintained, they have two nice pool areas. If you stay on the upper floors in the tower you can see DL from your room.

I know it's not kosher to promote other boards, but if you book thru Mouseinfo.com you get a really good deal. Last time we stayed there we got a rate $20 lower per night than I could find anywhere else (booked thru Mouseinfo).

Since we discovered HoJo we never stay anywhere else in Anaheim. It is the best value IMO.
