I have a dog next door that barks constantly all day. I swear I'm gonna get an ulcer about this. Has anyone used the Bark Free device? I figure I have the right to put one on my fence that abuts the dog's pen. The idiot neighbor has the dog pen closer to my house than his own and then leaves the dog outside all day.

I'm about at my wit's end and spring is only starting. Anyone have any other suggestions on getting this dog to SHUT UP???

P.S.We talked to the neighbor about this last year, but he's also the one who set off dynamite in his backyard, basically under my bedroom window last summer so I'm rather nervous about him.

I don't know what that device is that you are refering to. BUT......I would be very cautious about leaving yourself open to any type of lawsuit (harming their dog). You need to call animal control and complain. After so many (don't know the law anywhere except here) complaints, the neighbor will be issued citations and have court dates. The judge will make it his responsibility to correct the dog's behavior or face more fines...........

Generally when a dog is left outside, it is ignored. They then will develope behavioral problems from lack of attention. This is not your responsibility.

Make your complaints thru the proper channels and let animal control take the "heat".

When faced with fines or worse, your neighbor will take care of his dog, re-home him, or go broke!

Most places have laws about barking dogs and there are fines involved...I would check with your local police...

I have a beagle who is a barker and I've been very careful to try to keep her under control...I puchased a barker "collar" but I've never heard of something that you attach to the fence....I would be careful like the above poster stated..

I also have a dog that LOVES to bark! Fearing my neighbors would run me out of town we bought a bark collar. I swear it was the best $70 we ever spent. He doesn't wear it all of the time, just when he wants to hear himself "talk".
But I know that this doesn't help you, your neighbor has to do it. Good luck.

Those of you that have purchased bark collars, where did you get them? Can you recommend a certain kind of collar?

Our dog is a house dog, so she doesn't bother the neighbors, but she drives me crazy sometimes!

This Bark Free device is harmless to the dog - it emits a high pitched frequency(invisible to humans)that's annoying to the dog. I feel I have the right to put something like this on my own property as I'm not hurting anyone/anything as this particular dog owner has never shown any respect for his neighbors(i.e. the dynamite incident in the middle of the night). I know he has no intent to do anything as he leaves the dog outside the whole time he's not home - which with his new girlfriend, seems to be everyday, all day.

Just my opinion..............as with collars to "stop" a dog from barking....this fence device would require training also. It sounds as if you are getting into the area of "payback". The only one who loses, is the dog.

The owner leaves him outside because he doesn't want to be bothered with him. A device on your fence will only agitate the dog further.......and possibly other dogs in the surrounding area. More barking.

Would YOU want a high pitched noise in YOUR head all day? Would drive you crazy, wouldn't it!

Please consider complaining to animal control and letting them do their job.

Dogs pick up bad habits when bored..........he doesn't know it bothers you.....he's doing what a dog does!

Some of you will recall my parents' barky Westie. My mom and dad were ready to give up the dog because she never stopped barking. She barked at everything and nothing, it was awful. In a last ditch effort to save the dog, I took her in for a few days and purchased a bark collar. It was, and I do not exaggerate - a MIRACLE. It really, really works. I'm happy to report that the little Westie is now happily living back home with my parents and everyone is forever grateful for the bark collar.

It was 49.99 at Petsmart. Can't recall the brand name, but it's red in color and it emits a little zap that gets a bit stronger with each bark. The most we ever hear is a tiny "woof" anymore. And even that's rare. She's like a new doggie. :D
