Any one here into Salt Water Aquariums?

I am very seriously considering getting started in the Salt Water hobby. I am considering a 65 gallon set up. I have tons of experience with fresh water set ups, and even exotic reptiles. Any one have any tips or suggestions? I'm dealing with a very good dealer who specializes in salt, he's pricing me a set up currently. He thinks it will be in the $1300-1500 range, I told him I didn't want to skimp on equipment.

My dh has one. My advice is to read everything you can and get educated and do not depend on your "pro" do do everything. Also there are LOTS of sources for things on the computer that will be way less expensive than buying locally. Yes it is very expensive but learn everything you can before you invest the money. AND.....GO SLOW!!! If you put too much stuff in there at once you will lose lots of fish and other things.

We have a 75 gallon salt tank and we both really enjoy the hobby. However it is not a cheap to maintain.

We have a 55 gallon that DH is slowly setting up as a reef and a 45 gallon tank for a porcupine puffer and an eel that came initially with the 55 gallon we bought from someone on craigslist.

Go slowly! Make sure you check out all of the online communities, especially reefcentral and price check items! Lots of people sell their old stuff on ebay or craigslist because they're upgrading to a larger tank. Don't rely on your local store completely for help - the pros want you to buy their stuff.

I had a sw tank and loved it. I want to get another. The bigger the tank you can afford to go with the less problems you will have. Take your time. Get everything functioning well before you go with fish.
