Any one else having problems using your AKV points

Called up ms today to make a ressie at the end of the yr . Borrowing some points from my 08 yr and MS told me there is a glitch in the computers that wont allow them to borrow my akv points. Anyone else having this problem ..

Hmmm, I was under the impression that we couldn't use the AKV points until the resort opens in September. Besides that, I didn't think we could make any reservations with those points until May 16. On the other hand, when I changed a ressie today, my point total reflected my AKV points, so MAYBE....

We aren't 7 months away from the end of the year. We can only use them at other resorts within the 7 month time frame now. If you're only trying to go 7 months from now, it should work. I was told as long as the ressie was after Sept. 1st. Call your guide!

I had planned to use ALV points for a stay in September. This was to be a wedding gift for friends. I called my guide to be sure that it was possible before I offered the gift, and I was called by DVC saying that it could be done. It turns out that my friends are going to Italy, so I never actually did it, but I had been assured that I could have booked BWV with the AKV points for a Sept. '07 stay.

Call your Guide and let him/her book your stay. That's what we did. If there is a problem let your Guide deal with it.

I would hate to think they would not allow you to save your AKV points to use for the 11 month window. Does anyone else have any experience with this who owns at multiple resorts?

That is not correct. It sounds like you got an inexperienced CM at MS. You are not required to use your AKV points in this situation. If you would prefer to keep your AKV points to book at AKV, call MS back and tell them you want to rebook that extra night using borrowed BWV points.

The MS CM may have advised you to use current points but they cannot prohibit you from using borrowed points if the points are available to borrow. It's your decision which points to use when you make a reservation - assuming you are doing it correctly.

I have four home resorts and when I make a reservation I specify which points they are to use during the request. Sometimes MS will make a suggestion, but, before I make the call, I've usually decided how I am going to allot my points. MS doesn't always know what my alternate or future plans for my points are, so how can they accurately decide which points I should use up first? I know that some CM's will not ask which points you are planning to use. I've had this happen.

I always end my call by having the CM confirm my point balances to make sure they have been allocated correctly.

This is a very good habit - everyone should do it. It is sooooo much easier to correct a misunderstanding when it happens than it is too find the problem later and possibly be stuck with it!

The CM you spoke to should have also advised you that you could TRY and IF there were rooms available at BWV you would be able to do it....there are no guarantees on any of the DVC resorts for any time during the year.....you have the 11 month window for owners of any given resort, and then the 7 month window for all DVC owners to book at.....given that September is a slow time, you very well may have gotten your request for BWV, but you should not have been assured that you could book there. You are a wonderful friend to try and give that type of wedding present....can I be your friend?!!!!
