Just wondering if anyone has any must do non-park activities at WDW. When we went for the first time in Nov. it was with the kids and basically commando park touring. Now I'm trying to convince DH to go back for our anniversary next year and I need as many non park ideas as possible. I love the Disney magic I encountered the few times we weren't in the parks and know we could have a blast doing only a few park days (which is about all DH could handle) but I really want a sample itinerary to convince DH and to do that I need more than "hang out at the resort" (although that is certainly anoption occasionally)

Miniature golf at Fantasia Golf course, lunch at Beaches and cream- split the burger and have a BIG sundae, rent bikes in the broadwalk. Sit on the rocking chairs and people watch.

Go the the Wide World of sports and eat lunch and wander around.

Go to Animal Kingdon Lodge and watch the animals, have a drink at vistoria falls, go on the tour of Boma and Jiko. Have Dinner at Jikos and then see the animals through the night vision goggles.

Thank you so much. Fabulous ideas! There are a few that woulden't work for us but I'm sure someone else will appreciate the ideas. DH is a disabled vet with massive mobility issues. At the very best of times he will have two canes so certain things like bike rentals are out but we still want to explore and several of those are right up our alley. I love the idea of the night vision goggles. Especially since Jiko is a must for us. Can we get those if we don't stay a AKL (thinking about CSR) and is there a charge? Thanks again for the great ideas!

Considering your husband's mobility issues, I can make a suggestion if he would be open to it. You are choosing to stay at CSR which is huge. Animal Kingdom Lodge is gorgeous, its all contained in one building and you can get room discounts through the military (of course you can with ALL on property rooms). I would strongly urge you both to rent an ECV. Many use them who normally walk around a lot but have limiting factors like rheumatoid arthritis or MS. It will greatly improve your range of activities.

A great day for me at WDW would be, wake up and make coffee in my room, head to an animal viewing area (if I didn't purchase a Savannah View room, which is not really necessary) and enjoy the animals while I sip my coffee and relax in the morning. Head back to the hotel to shower and get ready for the day or maybe enjoy a morning swim at the pool. No need to rush, I am not commando style touring. I then might head over to DHS to ride Tower of Terror and Rock n Rollercoaster, by this time it is probably noon or later. Next I stop in Tune Inn Lounge (near 50's Prime Time restaurant) for lunch and perhaps a cocktail or two. They serve the full menu at the bar. I might then leave DHS and head over to either the Boardwalk or Epcot. I am headed straight for World Showcase. I will check out a couple of countries, try a couple local drinks and then head back to my hotel. Late afternoon swim, get ready for dinner, go to Victoria falls for pre-dinner totties and then a lovely dinner at Jiko or Sanaa. After dinner possibly going to the night vision viewing areas to watch the animals on the savannah at night.

That would be a wonderful and typically relaxing day for me at the park. I will give more examples this evening when I get home from work.

Sounds wonderful. I definatley think an ECV is a neccesity for DH. We used a wheelchair for our last trip and it was a bit of a pain to put it mildly. I actually have arthritis and Fybromyalgia so I have thought of getting one for me too. DH thinks it would be funny the two of us motoring around together:rotfl2:. I have looked at AKL it's beuatiful and I love it. I'd love to stay there but it's a bit out of our budget and we don't qualify for military discounts based on WDW poilcys. We do at some places and with most cruise lines but not Disney. That's okay though Disney is magical enough to make it worth it. I can't wait to hear more of your marvelous ideas.

Okay so no AKL. That is fine as there are many gorgeous resorts. Have you thought about POFQ? Smaller, one bus stop, boat to DTD, romantic in my personal opinion. Okay, I drooled on my computer long enough. Here is another day in the life. . .

Morning, swim in the pool. . .ahhh, so relaxing. Today becomes Transportation day. Why? Because we can. . .

1. Take the bus to Magic Kingdom.

2. Take a boat to Wilderness Lodge and explore the resort some.

3. Take the boat back to MK and a bus or walk to Contemporary. Have lunch at the bar at Cali Grill. . .no waiting and no ressie needed.

4. Take Monorail to Poly, head to the bar and order a drink of some sort with an umbrella. Explore the resort.

5. Take the Monorail to the Grand Floridian. Have a cocktail at Meisners Lounge. Explore the resort. . .

6. Take the Monorail back to the Contemporary. Go to MK and catch a bus for your resort. Eat dinner in the food court, lounge in the jacuzzi till bedtime. . .

sleep well.

I just read about your transportation day idea on another thread. I love it! :cool1: Definatley right up our alley. I revisited the idea of AKL and while it was not as much more as I remembered it would totally rule out the idea of the Richard Petty Driving Experience for DH(which I'm not sure I can swing but would absolutley love to as DH would just love it and it would be a great surprise anniversary gift.)
You really do have great ideas. Thanks

I go the week after Thanksgiving, so I do a resort day. I sleep in for a few extra hours.

I take the bus over to Epcot and then walk over to WS, to the boat for the BC/YC/BW/Swan/Dolphin and tour all the resorts. I stop at BW, and then go out on the Boardwalk for a while and get some candy at the Candy shop.

From BW, I take the bus to MK and get on the monorail loop for GF/CR/Poly. I take my time in GF, since there is ususually a pianist playing in the lobby. One year, I was lucky enough to show up in time for a family to have wedding pics taken in front of the tree.

I go back to MK and take the boat over to WL, just in time to go to the lounge and have some drinks and snacks.

From WL, I take the bus to DTD, walk around a bit and do some xmas shopping, and then take the water taxi back to POR.

Believe, that kills an entire day.

I can't take credit for all these Ideas. I have done them but some of the ideas were given to me by others so I, of course, HAD to do them. We also go often enough that it is not necessary to do parks every single day - in fact, sometimes I only go on my favorite rides when there and skip everything else.

I will send more ideas your way in a few. . .
