They have a great package deal for the Canon D50.
But I worry the deal sounds too good. It is using the instant rebates but you get a lot of other stuff with the camera....

I have purchased from them with no problems. They are the type place that will call and try to upsell you but I have never had a problem telling them no and they are fine with that.

I would purchase from them again!

Exactly right...I in fact just made a purchase from them on Friday, as their deal on the Sigma 30mm F1.4 was too good to pass up, plus another $20 in discount codes...they were a good $60 less than anyone else.

I read lots of reviews and information on them, and was prepared for the 'upsell' call, which I did get just a few hours later. But it was fairly painless - they just tried to pitch me on some no-name brand filters, I said no thanks, and that was it. Got my UPS tracking number the next day, and as of this afternoon it left NJ and was on its way to Florida with an expected delivery tomorrow.

No hesitation to buy from them again.

I'll be the dissenting voice. The upsell call I got from them when I ordered was rude and full of lies.

I'd rather not support a company that tries to prey on people's ignorance, and I'd recommend you pay a few extra dollars elsewhere.

I hope you didn't get taken on any of the upsell stuff. I won't argue that they try to upsell - they definitely do - but my recommendation would be to absolutely never even consider a single thing they try to pitch to you no matter how good it sounds. I never even heard of the filter company they were pitching, so I'm sure it was a 5 cent piece of junk from a third-rate Chinese manufacturer...with huge profit margins to help recoup the losses from selling lower for the main products.

I can see how someone who fell into the upsell trap would be a tad upset. I was lucky to have been fairly warned to expect said call, and therefore was ready for the pitch.

thanks for the input. I just found almost the same deal on Amazon. Different camera bag...didn't really need one any way and a different brand of card. But I can just order the card I like. Price is a wash between the two and I am comfortable with amazon.

i think they are somehow related with beach and buydig. never bought from abes' but have from the other 2.

Actually, I don't think there's any link between BuyDig/Beach and Abe's. Certainly the buying experience is much difference.

I've bought my three most expensive lenses from them and had no problem. After the first order, I put in the "comment" field that I don't want any filters, batteries, or other accessories. That seems to help curb the "upsell" call.

To follow up on my order I mentioned, I received my 30mm F1.4 on Wednesday this past week - so my order was filled and shipped by Abe's in 5 days, using the free ground shipping option. Glad I decided to take a gamble on them as it paid off with a price $60 less than I could get the lens anywhere. Lens arrived packed properly and new in sealed box. All is well!

.

i had researched them a few yrs back before i bought from beach or buydig( forget which i bought from first, think it was beach). both beach ( previously known as beach camera of maine) and abes of maine were linked, basically were kicked out of maine and went west. beach dropped the "of Maine", went to NJ and "cleaned up" their act, Abes kept the "Of maine" went to NJ by way of Brooklyn and as to cleaning up their act, from their reviews i would guess not so much.
i don't know if they still maintain an affiliation or how much of one.
