Tell me about this resort. I am going there in October for 4 nights and would like to hear some reviews.

What are your likes and dis-likes? :confused3

We had a two bedroom villa and it was right by the Turtle Pool. Loved OKW!!! I liked where we stayed too cause the pool was private , we didn't get kicked out any time even if it was after hours and we decided to swim before going to bed, even with our little noisy children. It was quite there also! We know that was probably a once a lifetime deal and we will probably never be able to do it again. Also the bus was empty when we got on cause we were one of the first stops! in the morning having the kitchen was great cause we made breakfast and stocked it with snacks for late at night.

It's a great place! Have stayed their for 3 visits....once in a studio and twice in a 1-bedroom. I'm spoiled by the size (1 bedroom) and the kitchen and in unit washer/dryer! The kids loved feeding the ducks that would congregate outside our patio. You might post this on the DVC board too and will be sure to get tons of opinions! Did you want to know anything in specific? It is a big/spread out resort and we have always requested to stay close to a bus stop and the Hospitality House.

:cool1: We love it there and own there. We have stayed in a 2 bedroom and a GV. It is the only way to go! Less points and more space. We bought in 1994 when OKW was the only DVC place. SO GLAD WE DID. After Disney realized that they had a great thing going, the points went up at the other locations. OKW is a more relaxed place with less noise. You can park outside your room and not walk for miles getting there. It is a lovely place with lots of plants and flowers. I know you will love it. Let us know what you think.

We absolutely LOVE OKW! :goodvibes

The size of the 2BR, the atmosphere, location!

We're BWV owners but love to go to OWK when we want to be in a less hectic setting. Nothing like sitting out on the patio in the morning and just chilling out.

WE have had more than 20 OKW trips, and each one was marvelous! Everything from the studio to the GV has lots of room, and the patios are huge and wonderful. Here is my partial list of my favorite things about OKW:
Huge rooms
parking outside your door
great bus service
huge rooms
huge bathrooms
huge kitchen
huge balcony
full laundry room
nothing smaller than a queen size bed or sofa
peaceful atmosphere
bright decor
friendly staff
Olivias
walk to DTD
boat ride
golf and water views
no hallways

by the patio in the mornings...
LOVE the lanai fan on a warm day...
Watching golf - sometimes good, sometimes not so;)
Having two sofas to stretch out in...
Room for 8 around the dining room table...
Going for a walk...
...and oh, did we mention the new pool slide??;)

Life's good at OKW::yes::

:sunny:

Hi: Just wondering are there paths or walkways to stroll along the river at OKW> We love the riverside/french quarter and love to walk the paths beside the river. So I am just wondering if it is similar, also can you take a boat ride to downtown disney from OKW, like the ones that go to riverside/frenchquarter.

Don't forget the HUGE Jacuzzi for 2 (or more with little kids) It is much bigger than any other DVC except HH.

Of course this isn't in the studios

We walk the pathway(I ride my ECV) along the river to DTD. It is a great walk. We wave to all the boaters. :wave2: The boat from the dock at OKW has been upgraded in size and goes to DTD from late morning to late evening.

Our first stay at a vacation club resort was at OKW on cash. We loved it! That stay was what convinced us to look into the vacation club. We became members and have since stayed at OKW many times. We love Turtle Pond. OKW is very quiet, the rooms are the largest. The staff has always been wonderful there at check in to meet our requests. Have a great time! :earsgirl:

Hi: When you folks say that you stayed at old key west on "cash", are you meaning that you rented thru central reservations the same as you would reserve any of the other wdw resorts? Do they give good discounts for the dvc resorts?

I think we went through MS when we paid cash for one night in January, and we did get a DVC discount.

Back to the OP - love, love, love OKW.

Great rooms with a lot of windows
Love the balcony/patio (we like to watch the herons, otters, ducks)
Easy parking
We really like the main pool area, everything you need to spend the whole day there (cocktails, food, alternate entertainment)
Very relaxed, friendly, easy going atmosphere

Wow it sounds so nice. Can anybody rent thru MS or do you need to be a dvc owner. Also I take it that you are a dvc owner.

I am trying to figure out the best and cheapest way a non dvc owner can try the resort, so far I think that renting someones points sounds like an option but renting thru MS is that better than renting points.

Do you have to ask for a special area to get a spot near the ducks, otters, etc, we love the wildlife and landscaping in florida. That would really add to the magic of our trip.
We love the port orleans french quarter and riverside, so I am thinking that we would love old key west as well.

You need to be a DVC member to rent through MS and obtain the 25% discount (which is not always avaialble.)

Probably the cheapest way would be to rent from someone on the DVC rent board.

We were in building 63 when we saw the otters, they were right outside our patio. They put on quite a show. In all the buildings we have stayed in (probably 8 or 9 different ones) we have always enjoyed the wildlife and landscape. If you like POR, I would think having the balcony at OKW would be most enjoyable for you.
