I need your help please. I am meeting my parents in OKC in June to let my kids spend the summer with them. My mom suggested meeting up in OKC and making a weekend of it. What things are there to do in OKC?

See the memorial....

Thats about it. I hated Oklahoma when I had to go see my ex-girlfriends family.

See thats all that popped in my mind too. Certainly not very fun for the children and seems somber. Any other ideas?

I grew up just outside OKC.

They have a great zoo. They've redone most of the exhibits in the last few years to make them more like the animal's natural habitat. It's pretty neat now, definately one of the best in this part of the country.

They also have a neat museum complex called the Omniplex which houses the Kirkpatric Center, as well as the Air and Space Museum. They have lots of neat "hands on" sciene exhibits for kids. They also have a planitarium and Imax theater there. I't really cool! Everything is "kid friendly". This is a great place for a kid to spend the day!

Frontier City is a pretty cool themepark with an old west theme. Lots of fun stuff there.

They also have a water park called White Water.

The Cowboy Hall of Fame is there. That's pretty neat and might be interesting for kids - especially little boys.

They have a Bass Pro Shop. If you've never been in one of those, it's worth a visit. Lots of stuff the kids would love to see.

The Myriad Botanical Gardens is really cool, too. They have all sorts of great waterfalls, flowers, etc.

Here's a link with some great info.

That's about all I can come up with now. If I think of anything else, I'll let you know. Have fun!

UGGHHHH, I just deleted a bunch of sites after I we decided not to accept a job offer there... let's see, there is a museum of western history that looked kinda cool, there is a flight museum/childrens museum, the downtown area has a section called the brickyard w/a water taxi ride, there are riding stables and fishing, try looking up OKC chamber of commerce or visitors guide..merrypoppins is from there, she may see this and respond.

In OKC...hmm...there is Bricktown. At night it's mostly a club scene, but during the day it's fun for kids. There is a small boat ride, and (last time I was there) a place to get ice cream. Not far from there is the Myriad Gardens and a surrounding park. The gardens wouldn't be too exciting for little ones, but the park would give them lots of room to run. All of this is fairly close to the memorial if you are interested in seeing it. I don't think the kids need to go in the museum part of it, but the outside is very peaceful and there is a place with sidewalk chalk provided for kids to leave messages and another place for them to leave handprints. My kids weren't traumatized by it at all.
There is also the OKC Zoo and the Omniplex (an indoor hands-on type museum) which my kids love to visit. Those are probably a better idea than Bricktown, I'm just typing as ideas pop into my head. There is an amusement park too, Frontier City; but since my kids are too young to ride much there-it's been awhile since I've visited it. Along those same lines, there is White Water Bay which is (obviously) a water park. Again, it's been years since I've been there.
Feel free to PM me and I can probably get good directions to any of those places. OKC really isn't all that bad-especially if it's only for the weekend. :D

Funny, that's how I feel about Texas....;)

I highly recommend the Omniplex for the kids, they'll love it! The zoo is excellent as well. Since they're right next door to each other you could easily make a day out of visiting both places.

thanks everyone. I appreciate your suggestions. They all sound like some fun!

We have a great club scene in Dallas

Wrong guess. If I were much younger, I'd be TOO young to enjoy it. :D

I doubt the "club scene" is what the op is interested in anyway.

I'd vote for Frontier City (Six Flags owns it) and White Water (Six Flags owns it too) I think if you have a season pass to Six Flags that you get in free to both of those??? Also the Omniplex is great and the zoo right next door. There are 2 ice skating rinks, or you might catch a Redhawks game (baseball team under the Texas Rangers) in Bricktown then go on a boat ride in the Bricktown Canal and have dinner down there - some great restuarants. Depending on their ages, there are some great malls, several movie theaters, several lakes to boat or fish in, the new big Bass Pro shop is fun to visit and it's in Bricktown too. The National Cowboy Hall of Fame is really nice, lots of people travel here to see it. Celebration Station has go carts, mini golf, arcade games, bumper boats etc. and it's across from White Water. Just some ideas, theres lots to do if you just look for it :)
