Im trying to make the shaken iced Black Tea from home to save me some $$ this summer. I've asked when I order my Ice tea a few questions but now Im trying to put it all together.

So far I know:

Tazo Awake tea (bought the tea bags)
Classic Syrup (bought)

My question is how long do I let it sit for and how many tea bags do I use? I'd like to make a big batch at a time so a gallon at a time?

Thanks!

I don't even go to starbucks, but I just wanted to say, if you are going to make a lot of iced tea, buy a maker. They are only like $15 and if you consume a lot totally worth it

Secondly, what is this syrup? if it is just a simple syrup, it is SO easy to make, and i am sure a million times cheaper!

I can't give you specifics but I do know that Starbucks makes their tea very strong and adds water and ice to it just before shaking it. I always get it unsweetened, but I suspect the amount of syrup would depend on how sweet you like it.

I would love to know how they make the simple syrup too.....love the green tea and would love to make it at home to save $$$$$

It's just Sugar water, the bottle cost $7.95 so it was worth it for me to buy it. I also buy the vanilla syrup as I have Starbucks espresso maker that I make my Vanilla Lattes with.

I googled it on how to make it,but it comes up with so many different ways. I would like to find out how Starbucks makes theirs.

Heard they get the tea from concentrate? On the website you can buy it for $26.00 and I think it says makes 3 gallons?

There are a few variations, but a classic Simple syrup for drinks is 2 parts sugar:1 part water, boiled with an acid to make the sugar invert - I use vinegar, but you can use a pinch of cream of tartar or lemon juice

for example - 2 cups sugar, 1 cup water, and 1T vinegar. mix together and boil until sugar dissolves. Cool and refrigerate

My DD works there, I can ask her when they she gets home later, but I do know that they do not use the small bags that you buy, they use 2 of the large size bags just for maing their tea in the store in about 1 quart of hot water, let it steep, then add 1 quart of cold water.

Saw these already, there for the tea/lemondae combo which I just want the tea recipe. Tried the combo and too tart for me!!

I would think you would make the tea the same way and just leave out the lemonade. Maybe water it down a bit to taste to make up for the lack of extra liquid?

You can buy the bigger bags of black, green and passion tea in the summer from Starbucks (at least you could the last 5 summers).

Starbucks makes it super concentrated then adds cold water. Then when they make it for the customer they add more water and ice to make it even less concentrated.

When I make iced passion tea at home and I'm out of the big bags, I usually use 5 or 6 individual little bags (and make them in probably a half a gallon of hot water)and then add cold water and ice and then taste it while adding the ice/water just to make sure I am not diluting it too much.

From when I worked there I can tell you the iced tea is more like a random "however the barista made it that way" recipes. There is an official recipe, but I worked in 7 different stores and rarely encountered somebody who knew it. It's pretty hard to mess up if you just guess.

Starbucks barista here. The tea bags we use are much larger than even the iced bags Tazo sells to consumers. We use 1 bag with 1 liter boiling water, steep for 5 minutes, remove bag and add 1 liter cold water. When making a customer's iced tea, we use a shaker with lines on it. tea to first line, water to second, ice to fill. (with tea lemonade, replace water with lemonade) Classic syrup is 3, 4, 6 pumps accordingly for tall, grande, venti. Classic syrup is a simple sugar syrup, equal parts sugar and water, boil until dissolved, then cooled. Some people make theirs with 2 parts sugar to 1 part water.
The Tazo tea bag is probably the equivalent to 4 regular tea bags, possibly 5.

Don't forget, if you drink your iced tea (or iced coffee, or hot coffee/tea) in the cafe, refills are only 50 cents, or free if you use your registered Starbucks card to pay!

One more thing-passion tea lemonade with raspberry syrup is great (use less syrup than classic).
