Hi All,

DVC can't contact me here nor can they send me any information. Are there any NS DVC'ers here? If so, how did you become one?

Regs,

CJM

As you can tell from my user name- I am from Quebec. We have the same rule here. We had to purchase when we were in Florida- the rationale I heard was that you had to be there so you could see what you were purchasing as opposed to "swamp land timeshare in Florida". I am curious if you would have to purchase add-ons in person- anyone done an add-on by phone?

C'mon people- we need some answers :sunny:

Hi! We had to do all the contract stuff onsite at Disney. They don't have any local representation (or something to that effect) in many provinces..
If you have any questions please PM me! :)

If you need any more info let us know we are in Ontario and had no problem if you would like some questions answered etc feel free to ask.

My understanding was DVC had to be licensed in each jurisdiction it sells in and Ontario is the only place in Canada that they are allowed to do business in.

There are plenty of Maritimers in DVC, they just had to buy a different way. Some US states have this problem as well (those farther from FL and with smaller populations). I know our pal MBB is a Nova Scotian and there are a bunch of others.

Your DVC purchase and information options are limited by this unfortunate fact. The easiest, but not cheapest method, purchasing direct from DVC from your home, is not available. This leaves you two other options: buy direct from DVC in Florida, or buy resale from home. Of these the latter, resale, is the cheapest option generally, plus it provides you with more options for your home resort; one consideration here is that you would need to pay up front for all your points. But buying direct, on the other hand, allows you to finance the purchase thru DVC, tho I am not sure of the terms for non-US buyers.

One option might be to reserve a DVC resort for cash, then if you go on the tour and decide you want to buy, then you might be able to arrange to pay for your stay with points you are buying then, and get the cash paid for the room applied to the downpayment (not sure if this would work with SSR selling uncompleted buildings at present - perhaps if you were staying at a resort other than SSR).

As for perusing the way it works ahead of time, you could always have the info sent to someone in a jurisdiction where DVC is already approved (a friend in Ontario or in the States) and have them forward the stuff to you in NS. The website is only marginally informative, unfortunately, but that may give you an idea of how it might work. I for one would be happy to trans-ship materials for you, but perhaps an Ontarian (already in Canada Post) might get it to you more quickly.

Good luck!

With Canadians you can have your payment taken directly from your Credit Card each month including your dues once a year this is a great option and we just look at it as a monthly payment in which we pay off completely on each CC statement.

What he said;)

Our guide mentioned the "stay here on cash, and we'll convert it to points" option, but BCV was selling out, so no guarantee that we would be able to get BCV points...so, long story short, we had DH's sister's address in Ontario, and she gladly forwarded all info to us.

We bought, and did an address change shortly after.

HOWEVER!!!!!!
This sure "ain't the best way to skin a flea"...:)

We paid cash, and to do financing, your info would all have to "match".

And we couldn't order another info pack and forward it to you, either. Even though we're members, in the system, living in NS, we *STILL* have to do any additional purchases:
1)through resale
2)while in Florida.

...probably better that way, though...the 100 point bonus with a 120 point add-on was awfully tempting!! LOL!!

HTH!!

:sunny:

Thanks everyone! I'm pretty sure we will be buying resale or in Florida anyway when we go down. You all provided GREAT information!

Regs,

CJM
