I can't bear to read through all 187+ posts to the Summer 2005 thread unless I know there is some REAL NEWS on it. Anyone know? I really want to do a 7 day that summer and am getting agitated about not knowing.

Actually I DON'T want to do it in the summer, but since my oldest will be in school, I guess I am going to have to start traveling when everyone else does. (The thought breaks my heart!) I tried to plan around a Fall school break, but they won't release the school calendar for Fall 2005 til January 2005. (Don't they know we're trying to plan our cruises?! :) ) I checked Thanksgiving and Christmas and it was SOO much more $$$. What to do what to do!!!

Nothing confirmed yet...everything is still just speculation. At this point it appears that the summer 2005 dates will not be available until the "big announcement" is made on or about May 5th. We should know by then where the Magic will be for summer '05.

What grade is your oldest? I don't have any problems taking kids out of school for a weeks cruise if they are average to good students. Especially if they are in the 6th grade or earlier. After that it gets to be a little trickier. We have one in HS and he's going to miss 6 days for a cruise this year. Its more of a struggle than with the younger kids, but he'll do fine.

i was told on 4/3 cruise, announcement will be made 5/5, and that there are plans already for new boat, but nothing has been started

Around here you'll be explaining to the judge why your kids missed a week of school for a cruise, if they are in public school.
The schools really are strict because THEY don't get paid for days your kids aren't in class.
Both mine are in private school, and for many folks, the ability to take their kids out of school at will, as long as they make up the work, is the reason they choose private versus public school.
Private schools don't care because they get paid either way.

In my DD's school (8th grade) they give kids an "attendance failure" if they have more than 5 days of an "unexcused absence".(vacations are unexcused in their opinion). We ran into this last year when I took the kids out of school for a trip to WDW in November. She missed 5 days on the trip and missed 2 other days previously for being sick. I had to fight with the school about the sick days being excused because they wouldn't excuse them without a Dr's note. Unfortunately, we will not be taking her out of school again and also are forced to cruise during the summer (actually the last week in August, so I'm hoping a lot of kids will be returning to school by then. Our schools start after Labor Day). As far as summer 2005 dates, I don't have any info for you, sorry. We are going on the Wonder.

I am really anxious to see what they do for the summer. I wish they wouldn't wait until May!!!

Yeah, there really seems to be no clear cut answer about kids missing school. My oldest will just be starting 'real' kindergarten in the fall. It is hard for me to get used to the idea that school is SOO important in Kindergarten. I do think the schools are pretty tough on attendance though.

I just wish the darn summer cruises weren't so much more money besides the fact that there may not be any 7 days in the summer 2005.

Just document how many days your child doesn't really do anything in school and what the reasons are. In our school the week before mid term time and the week at the end of the term time our teachers take all of that time and flush it down the toilet because they want to give the kids who haven't done their work throughout the term to get caught up and be able to "earn" a passing grade. Another favorite time waster is doing a "class project" - not something useful, just a "question and answer session" and every kid gets the grade that the class earns (it's great for the failing kids and not so good for the "A" students because the score is usually a low "B") Thats just some of the experiences at our school, your's may be (and hopefully is) different (better!!!)

Yep, thats the way the school districts get paid - Average Daily Attendence. And if they have a half day of school, they (the district) gets to count everyone as if they were there a full day.

My dd age 11 has always missed 1-2 weeks a year because of vacation. So far, no problem, this year she missed 3 days in the fall for WDW and will miss the last week in April, we moved our timeshare to coincide with her vacation. Next year will be tricky, as long as her grades are good, she is a B+A student, I will probably pull her for the 2 weeks and not mess around with the timeshare. Its a great family trip, parents, grandparents, Aunts and uncles, etc., etc.. But if she is sick or has problems in 7th grade, she won't be missing shoool at all!

Also anxiously awaiting the Summer 2005 schedule . . .

Is it confirmed that there will not be any 7-day cruises next summer, or is it a rumor? I find that hard to believe . . .

It seems highly unlikely that there will be any 7-night cruises out of Port Canaveral in summer 2005.

There is no reason that DCL would keep the Disney Magic's summer 2005 crusies off the market if it were simply a case of substituting a few ports on the Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries. Even if DCL were planning to work in a few 10 night cruises for variety, there is no reason to keep them off the market. DCL is taking bookings for the Disney Magic through the end on 2005, except for the summer 2005 mystery period.

If the Disney Magic goes to California as the rumors say, then the question is whether DCL would offer only 3- and 4-night cruises (in part of land/sea Disneyland packages), or whether DCL would offer 7-night Mexican Riviera cruises, or whether there would be some combination.

I don't care where it's going...I will be on it 4th of July week! I hope that if they go 3 and 4, it doesn't have to be combined with a land/sea DL package because I would just do a two-peat. I've been to DL once, but it was kind of dissapointing after so many trips to WDW. I'd rather be on the ship as long as possible.

Does anyone know how many points are needed for July 3, 2005, four night Wonder. Cat. 10 and Cat. 11 - We are considering this now as a back-up - I don't think we (we are about 4-5 families) want to go to CA. Each of us usuall reserve two staterooms and we can't do anything til August anyway, but would like an idea. I try to jump up a few from this year's points - I am estimating about 140 - how close am I. Thanks.

My guess is the summer cruises will only be 7 day. On the other thread, someone said they heard that DCL will use Carnival's terminal. If that is the case, Carnival has 3 and 4 days leaving on Fridays and Mondays and 7 days leaving on Sundays. Unless DCL does 4 and 3 days on Saturdays and Tuesday or Wednesday, I would think they will do 7 days.
