Any Newfoundland owners out there?

Another neat thing about Newfies is, if you bring them anywhere, they instantly make friends. We used to take Ben to old car shows and all the kids would line up to pet him.
We brought him to a middle school 'show and tell' and let me tell you... he was in dog heaven!! Every child in the class had a hand on him....and there was plenty of Ben to go around.

Any time we'd order pizza, they'd send the newest kid out to our house. Ben would let out a large woof and bound down the stairs. Scared the living bejeezes out of the poor delivery kid.
I'd just say "whatever you do, don't drop that pizza" LOL

I agree with the tumbleweeds around the house... but you learn to adapt to whatever.

Absolutely love the pictures. Are they all black?

Nope. Some are brown, some are black and white. Mine is black w/ a little white at the scruff of the neck. I hear the black and white ones have Springer Spaniel in them and that they are not as docile. But that may be hearsay.

And they do make friends easily. Due to their wonderful temperament, they are known for visiting schools and nursing homes and such. Their pain tolerance is high and nothing seems to bother them. I give Mac shots and he doesn't flinch. The kids will hang all over him and he is in heaven. Also, my DS when 2 could walk Mac on a leash w/ no problem. Mac meandered right beside him, never once pulling the leash out of his hand. So cute.

I got one about 2 years ago, his name is baeley, and he rocks!

it's not a very good picture, but he is the big lump laying on the floor

newfies are great with kids and are really friendly in general...really hairy too....it's fun watching newf hair tumbleweeds blow across the floor :D

luckily baeley doesn't drool, but they are known to have gigantic slingers:)

what a beautiful dog disney enthusiast!:teeth:

Brigitte, He is absolutely beautiful!!! What great pictures!!! Thanks for sharing! You are a walking encylopedia on Newfies!!!:D

Thank you Lanshark and depplyinluv for your kind remarks on the pics. Baeley is beautiful as well and big! And so is that Great Dane? in the background!

Depplyinluv: I noticed you are from NH! I believe Newfie people tend to frequent there. The White Mtns are my favorite place in the world. Lots of great memories from there. I learned to ski on Loon. I am originally from MA and we would vacation in your lovely state. We got to know Ivan, a beautiful and friendly Newfie from around that Kancamangus area. Have you ever done Arethusa Falls and Frankenstein Cliffs? That was a difficult hike, but we had lots and lots of fun. Sorry about the Old Man..... I was so sad to see him go :( .

Thank you for your compliment. And you're Welcome! Thanks for being so interested. Newfies are so wonderful, but we tend to see a lot of abandoned ones in this area because the owners couldn't handle them or didn't know what they were getting into maintenance or money wise. But if the Newfie fits your family, he/she is the best dog in the world! :)

Wow! Thanks for all the great info!! We have an appointment tomorrow just to go look at a kennel and see the adult dogs of a breeder here in Michigan. Luckily the litters aren't due until end of July, so we should have plenty of time to make up our minds!!

No, we have a Landseer Newf-Black and White. We had to look for a long long time to find our Mitch. He weighs about 145 lbs, and is a gorgeous, friendly goof ball. Everyone who knows him, loves him. He stays in our basement room, which we leave the door open and he can go in and out from the cement slab under our deck or into the house. We can't have him around our male labrador upstairs who thinks Mitch wants to fight with him, but he really wants to play. Sometimes we switch them out, but Mitch prefers the cool basement floor. They are a very sweet intelligent breed. I haven't read all the posts on this thread, does anyone do water trials with their Newfs? Newfs were bred to be water rescue dogs, and they can
pull a small boat to shore if necessary. They have competitions with different water rescue games. I would love to see this. Our Mitch has never been swimming, but I am thinking that maybe one of these times we may take him out on our boat...If we could figure out how to get him back into the boat after jumping into the lake!!

He sheds a LOT and he has very LONG hair. It drives me crazy, but with 3 other large dogs, what's a little more dog hair. I don't feel comfortable unless I am covered in it..:teeth:

Disney Enthusiast, Mac is just gorgeous!!

Yes, Nana is a Newf....::yes::

p.s. We had a really bad experience with a deposit at a kennel in OHIO. If you are looking around there, pm me with the name and I will let you know if it is them and what happened.....

hrh_disney_queen: Glad to meet a fellow Newfie person. Thank you for your comments on our Mac.

Depplyinluv: It was so nice chatting w/ you. The pics of Baeley are so awesome! They make me want to grab those cheeks and give a nuzzle.

6_Time_Momma: Good luck w/ the research and let us know what you decide.

anytime! He really is better looking in person;)

I think I'm pretty safe here saying that...

After reading all these posts about newfies.... I want to go out and get another one (I really miss Ben)

Not sure how my cats would like it. I'm sure they'd adjust.

One thing did frighten Ben... small dogs, especially puppies. I think they are too hyper for his liking.

We also had 7 cats and another dog (Bearded collie female) at the same time. Ben was best friends with some of the cats... I believe he thinks he's a cat

Hey look a fellow NHite! we have these pomeranians that live next door and baeley met them one time....he got so spooked because they were walking under him...he's not a big fan of dogs smaller than his head:)

Our neighbors just got a puppy, just adorable. A big fluff ball. Very laid back and listens well. I've heard they don't live long though, only 6 or 7 years tops. Not sure if that is true, I wouldn't like that.

Hi,

We have two black Standard Poodles. I'm severely allergic to dog fur. Poodles have hair and don't shed.

I have two cute Newf stories.

My brother worked for a toy store delivering baby furniture. One day he made a delivery. He knocked on the woman's door and saw this big black thing come running. He ran back to the delivery truck. He thought it was a big black bear. It was a big black Newf. He laughs every time he tells the story.

A friend of ours father lives in Maine near a lake. His next door neighbor has two Newfs. She says everytime she visits her father the two Newfs swim side by side around and around the lake.

Newfs are big teddy bears. You just want to throw your arms around them and hug them.
