Seems that it is all quiet on this WDW Front.
Not even a whisper.
Only thing coming out is about new resorts.
Not even any good Ride Rumors lately.
Is Eisner et al tightening up THAT much or is something really brewing behind the scenes?
My hopes are on the latter but with all of the behind the scenes poo-poo about how the "California Adventure" was run through in such a Non-Disney Fashion, do we really want a "Florida Adventure"(roller coaster/amusement themed park)?
Would that even be better than if Six Flags came to Central Florida?
I would even be happy with a really creative ride.
I hope that "Space" at EPCOT lives up to the hype and does not get slashed to pieces at the end of the project due to last minute budget saving cost cutting.
I guess we can probably even forget about anything fantastic like a new land added to the "Magic Kingdom" themed to Disney Villains.
Whaddup?
I thought that the Villains merchandise was flying off the shelves at any DS.
Anyway, cross your fingers. It looks like "Space" is all we have to look forward to for awhile.

HAVE FUN

Nothing new, really. Just the same old 5th gate rumors. My take is that we are likely to see a much longer than normal gap between AK and gate 5.

A lot of the budget for the next 2 years has been spent on new attractions and 100 years of magic stuff:

Millionaire
Alladin
Sorcerer's Hat
DinoLand additions
4 new parades
2 new fireworks shows
improvements to Main Street
Walt Disney: One Man's Dream
Uprgrade of Bear in the Big Blue House
Several new animal habitats at AK
Upgrade of HOP
100 new buses

Show --

You brought up something that has been one of my major pet peeves with Disney -- the purchase of 100 new buses. I firmly believe Walt would have a fit if he saw the smog producing buses rolling around DW, in leiu of his beloved monorail. I understand that buses are more economical to purchase (about $50 million for 100 buses vs the probable $1 billion for a monorail expansion), however, doesn't it take away from the magic waiting for, smelling, and sitting on a bus? Isn't that what most people do during the rest of their lives to get to work? How many of us will rent cars to avoid taking the buses? BITE THE BULLET MIKEY AND DO SOME REAL CAPITAL SPENDING ON SOMETHING RIGHT (MONORAIL) VS. SOMETHING YOU THINK WILL GENERATE SHORT TERM PROFITS (DCA)

Now here is my financial justification for putting up the monorail:

1. The time people save waiting and riding the bus could be spent in the parks, buying souveniers from the gift shops at the end of each ride (forgive me Landbaron but I need to speak in Eisner for this pitch)
2. People would stop renting cars and "venturing" out to see the parks (Universal, etc). Increased revenues.
3. Increased attractiveness to staying on site -- Imagine the marketing campaign: Come to Disney and experience the future of transportation. In addition, Disney could "justify" higher rates for those hotels (forgive me again Landbaron), and could charge non-Disney guests a fee for use.
4. Finally, it is what Walt wanted!! He seemed to understand protecting the brand -- which when he was alive represented exceeding people's expectations. Yes he probably should have charged more for this. If the company did these things and charged slightly more (or did this to justify the already high rates) I would be happy to cough over my cash. However, as it is now, when I need to spend 20 minutes in the blistering Florida sun, waiting for a bus that never seems to come, while smelling the exhaust of the four that just went by, I begin to question why I am spending my money here.

Sorry for the rant. Also, I realize that the present economic conditions and management style, dictate no expansion of the monorail. However, that won't stop me from wishing....

As much as I would like to see a monorail expansion I feel the need to represent the other viewpoint.

Buses at this time are much more cost effective. The cost for 100 buses plus fuel and maintenence is much less than the cost for monorail infrastructure, trains, maintence and electricity.

Even with monorial expansion you will have long waits. The wait time will increase expotentialy with each resort that has a stop. Separate lines for groups of resorts would also cost more transit time because of the need to change trains. The buses can even drive faster than the monorails.

The new buses are more fuel efficient and less polluting (both air and sound).

You must weigh the overall costs of the transportation system against the possible increase in guest satisfaction. The surveys which are given at the exits seems to indicate that the increase in satisfaction for a monorail expansion is not enough to warrant the cost.

… My new best friend!!!!!

With only seven posts (count ‘em folks, only seven) he hits upon the subject of ‘magic’ and cuts to the chase. On the other hand you have my good friend Peter and the Captain who between them have countless posts and still circle around the issue, excusing, justifying and defend the obvious decline (which he admits to for the most part on a case by case basis).

(forgive me Landbaron but I need to speak in Eisner for this pitch)
No forgiveness necessary!! But I don’t know who you are talking who’s language you’re talking about. Could it be Ei$ner-speak you are referring to? If so, PLEASE spell it right. Remember the “$” in place of the “s”. It’s a lot of fun (Pre$$ler is even double the fun).

But I don’t think he reads the DIS!! At first I had hoped that he would stubble onto the site, but alas, I don’t think he has. Why, you ask? Well, I have a standing invitation for him to a barbeque at my house any time he likes. Sadly, he has not replied. So, he must not have seen it!!!!

Lastly, you may be surprised to know that I LOVED your post. However, you made a slight mistake. This subject deserves it’s own thread instead of being buried in another about some dream-world (read: non-Ei$ner) fifth gate. So, give it a day or two and repost here (if you can possible connect it to a news or rumor item) or try the debate board if nothing else.

Thanks for the breath of fresh air!!! And keep posting!!!!!!!

I was actually pondering the supposed value of Mono-transportation verses other capital spending last night following PP's thread.

What it came down to for me was that Ultimatly, the return on Investmentfor transportation simply isn't there right now. There's also a time limit right? All this monorail/lightrail has a definate cost in time to bring online. In reality, you may have to buy the busses anyway. And lets face it, Disney's made some blunders lately on capital spending issues (read DCA)
Right now they need to focus on maintaining their 90% occupancy rates and that means upgrading the parks.
They need A direct to the heart Adrenilin (Magic) injection not two tylenol and call me in the morning. So by all means buy the busses and don't build a 5th gate, make AK a full day park, so those rooms get booked, so we can talk about fancy monorails.
(note that Fastpass has already proven that giving guests more time in the park does not increase sales in the park. it means people go on more ride repeats. So that won't work.

Well, it is ONLY appropriate isn't it?

Pre$$ler is Ei$ner's apprentice, isn't he?

Now our beloved Landbaron gets his own apprentice as well.

"Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen it."

:)

The Monorails are expensive but untill they can make a system run that will transport more guests with less waiting time (I have waited more for a monorail than for a bus) the bus is the thing to do now. When a new system comes out, I will be 100% for new monorails, but for now both are 50/50.

As for the slowing down of projects, on the previous boards someone stated for Disney that expect confermations or denials of project rumors such as BK, Monorail Expansion, 2KL pool, Timekeeper, new street in the Studios, and the list goes on....

Wait? Who's the evil Emperor? Ei$ner or Landbaron?

I don't see pre$$lar as a vader, or even a luke (not nearly cool enough) He's more of a Tarkin (totally evil, there is no Conflict.)

To return to the original question..

Rumor is that Disney Cruise Line will be getting the next large addition. A third, fourth, and potentially fifth ship(s) will begin the design stage quite soon.

Where the ships will be call home port is unknown, but the buzz has begun on those projects.

As with everyone else, I am hoping the magic will transfer to the new ships. As I have stated many times, if you are looking for the 21st centuyry Disney magic, the Disney Magic and Wonder are where you will find them. Expenses have not been spared - the ships are wonderful.
