Any new rumors about GP room-only discount?

Can you guys clear this up for me? I'm confused. I asked my TA a couple of days ago that if a discount became available (either by pin or GP discount) if it is just applied to our existing reservation at POFQ or if we'd have to possibly move resorts to get a discounted rate. She told me that she'd work to apply it to my existing reservation and it would be considered a modification, we wouldn't have to check availability again.

Now, when I read things around here it seems as if even when you already have a reservation that you have to then see if they have availability at that same resort for the discounted rate? I'm just trying to understand how this works.

Your travel agent is mistaken. There has to be availability under your discount at that resort.

Hmm. I'm working with someone from Small World Vacations and she seems pretty knowledgeable. I won't second guess her until I actual get access to a code, I guess :) I'm not completely opposed to changing resorts, but it would be nice to stay where we are.

Hi Susan, we ended up booking Wilderness Lodge instead. It was a difference of paying a few hundred dollars more but well worth it from what I heard. Looks like there was a lot of luck involved in the timing, since accordingf to Harvey on the previous page, the resort is now sold out. You're only talking a matter of a few hours.

The POFQ booking is through my travel agent- including park tix and dining. The WL lodge booking was done on my own- he's not going to be happy!

Just so you know, you can do a takeover form and give the reservation that you booked to your TA. If they did a lot of work for you on the first reservation, it's a way of at least giving them something, since they don't earn anything if you don't travel with them.

There has to be availability. Sometimes you have to move to a different room category or even a different resort to get the discount. I see this happen a lot with annual pass discounts--they can get the resort, but not the room category (and have to move up). I'm sure your TA is perfectly knowledgeable. She's probably has a good idea of what's out there when you travel and doesn't see the point in worrying you over something that might not happen.

So in my case, TA made an inital booking for POFQ. I then found Fort Wilderness myself with 35% pin, applied, booked and gave deposit. Even though I already placed a deposit can I still execute the "takeover form" for the travel agent's benefit? Who has the form, the TA or Disney? Am I too late in the process?

You can transfer your reservation up until 45 days before you travel. Your agent should have a form that you can sign.

Hey guys- long-time lurker, first post.

The agent on the phone made mention that there was a big convention in town that week, but I'm not sure which one. According to Touring Plans, which we used last year, this is still the month to go.

Good luck to the rest of you! Mid-October seems to be slim pickins!

Mid October? Yup. Gartner takes over, specially the epcot eskers, but during the last two years, they added all other delux as options.

This happens every year. They been doing it for the last 20, and last year they renewed for another 10.

I've been to the last 3, but not this year...

I just tried to price some things out and the system was down. Here's to hoping they are loading it with something else good! :rotfl:

Probably just normal nightly maintenance though!

Has anyone heard anything about GP room-only discounts coming out tomorrow? :confused3 That was the first rumored date!

The source of that rumor was one or 2 people that talked to CMs on the phone. After that the rumors were all more vague " mid-august". I wonder if we're not seeing more concrete rumors because a) it really isn't until the 16th or b) that FD fiasco has Disney cracking down really hard on leaks.

I've always been a little skeptical of a Saturday release date. But I'll still probably be up at 5:00am checking the website. I hope the website updates first this time.

Done, thanks for the info. Glad to see that my agent, Phil @ MouseCounselors (who is excellent by the way), was able to keep my business.

So what did you end up doing with the POFQ one then sell back to them shouldn't there be an open room under a search or no?

At some point today it will be placed back into inventory. There was too much involved in trying to XL the booking and then transfer it to someone else, while then coordinating return of my deposit.

If you're still interested, I would say keep checking, something may open up!

I'll be up at the crack of dawn to drive DH to the airport, so I might as well check on things! I'd like to either get a discount where we are, POFQ, or score a discount standard room at AKL. Hope that's feasible.

Had to update my magical express information and asked about a GP discount. He didn't know anything about it, not unusual, and didn't say anything about overtime being offered anytime soon, which is a tip-off. A couple of weeks ago a CM told me about overtime starting exactly when the FD offer came out. Doesn't sound like anything is imminent.

The dates will likely be similar to the AP and pin offer dates that have already been released, so the GP offer will likely extend through mid-late December 2011 (before the holiday rush).

And I hope that CM was just clueless and a GP discount is, in fact, imminent!

So I'm assuming its a no go for today, just went on there, unless its announced like last time elsewhere again I'll keep looking.

A number of CMs have mentioned mid-August discounts so I'm still hopeful. I just wish we knew the date. As far as I can tell no one ever stated the 16th explicitly, that's just the date they were released last year. So it could just as easily be Monday or Wednesday.

On the plus side, BC availability has increased for my dates. And I realized I miscalculated Swan and Dolphin, so Swan is now within my budget too. I'll wait until at least Wed before going that route.
