Any Nevada Residents here on the Dis?

DH and I are looking at possibly relocating to Nevada- the Reno/Sparks area in particular.

Just wondering if any Diser's currently reside in Nevada?

Any tips, suggestions ideas? The good, the bad, the ugly......weather, traffic, jobs, schools, housing markets etc.....

any advice suggestions appreciated

We lived in Reno for 12 years before moving to Phx. I don't miss a thing about it. Would never move back there. I know...thats not what you wanted to hear but I am just being honest.

-Too windy (its windy there a lot!) and smoggy with the inversion layer
-not green enough....because the cold months last so long
-too many cold months
-scraping ice
Not enough shopping, the mall is sad, no variety. Macys is all you get and they are low level Macys...not high end ones like we have in Phx
-Not enough good restaurants and a lot of our favs that were great have gone out of business...lots of chains like Red Lobster, Chilis tho
-don't miss living in a casino town
-housing is expensive compared to Phx
-a lot of down town is getting run down and alot of closed casinos
-movie theaters are not that nice and not much variety
-boring after living there so long....we lived in Tahoe before...yes its beautiful....but after being there so long its not that exciting anymore
not enough to do for us
-schools, not sure? I was in college while living there.

We have been in Phx for 13 yrs and still absolutely love living here.

Wow only 1 person so far?? Yikes! Yes I've heard it's windy there..........and one of my biggest complaints is the lack of greenery.........it's still very much up in the air- nothing decided kind of move......I'm just trying to get as much info on the area as possible.

I live in sacramento and we go to reno on occasion, but pp is correct no green, cold, snow, and the parklane mall has been torn down. Imho there is not to much to do. But that is just me. I would do research online for things you want to know. Im not much help either. Sorry! Jo

Just keep on driving until you get to Boise. Trust me there is nothing in Reno/Sparks to keep you there.

We used to drive to Sacramento for shopping and something to do. Sacramento was always so GREEN

We used to go to Roseville auction, Sunrise Mall, Reb Lobster, Arden Fair Mall (NORDY !!!). and we would stay at the Holiday Inn off Interstate 80.

Ya, skip Reno, move to Nor Cal. LOL seriously, we go to Reno occasionally to gamble and for DBF to ski but that's about it, we usually just drive right thru Reno.
