Any MISTAKES made on past trips?

Not trying to get BOG months ago when I first decided to take our trip this week. My
dd16 is heartbroken because she wants to go there so badly :worried:

Another big mistake I have tended to make in the past in underbudgeting for food. I don't always factor in the snacks and things correctly.

Also, I've found that if we don't build a "play" day into the middle of our trip, then I really burn out. This time, I have two park days, a swim and shop day in the middle with a late afternoon trip to a park for a relaxing visit and dinner. Then two more park days. I have so much more fun when I don't push my self. :)

I hear ya about BOG, but do at least go for lunch. We waited about 20 minutes. It was very nice!

Did you have a reservation? I didn't even know they were open for lunch. Is it in the main ballroom area that the dinner is in? That's really what she wants to see :)

No reservations are needed for lunch, Yes it is in the same dining rooms. It counts like a counter service I think, you order from an interactive kiosk, you are given a "rose" as a "pager" and your order is "magically" delivered to your table, whereever you are sitting.
Look on Allears.net, I think that is where I saw the menu and times etc. I suggest beign there when they open.

Your DD may get her wish after all! No broken hearts! Enjoy! :wizard:

Wanting to do and see *everything*. Captain EO is 30 minutes of my life I'm never getting back :rotfl:

Buying cheap sneakers and thinking it wouldn't make a difference :headache:

Trying to stay until closing time on the first day after getting up very early that morning and having had little to no time for rest. Not good for the wife's mood! ;)

And finally - underestimating Florida's weather and assuming it would be warm enough all the time! Went in November and the temperature was the bigger roller coaster of them all! Hot and humid one day, the next I was freezing because I didn't bring as much as a cardigan! Hardly enjoyed MVMCP because of it :(

and dont lie to your kids, it'll cost you ;) lol

Yep. We lied and said we were going to Frankenmuth. I paid for that for 6 months. And my son still reminds me that next time I can't tell him that.

Our mistakes was not getting enough sleep. On out trip in 2010, we took an evening flight from Philly and by the time we got to our rooms at POR it was after 10:00. My parents insisted we be at MK the next day for RD (like so many other DISers!) and so we listened. We were up by 7:30 but it definitely was not enough sleep for my DD5 or us. We were tired and melted down by late afternoon and ended up leaving MK. We intended to go back but never did. We missed out on much of MK bc we didn't have time in our trip to go back.

Lesson learned. We will choose sufficient sleep over RD every time.

Mistakes:

Over feeding DS grapes from the Restaurantosaurus character breakfast when he was 13 months old. I paid the price later when I ran out of diapers during the afternoon parade at WS.

Drinking too much with friends at PI and trying to meet up with my mom and the baby the next day at MGM.

Spending too much time texting on my crackberry and keeping in touch rabidly with the bf left at home. That relationship didn't last, and now I have a bunch of PP pics with me holding that dumb phone like it's the most important thing in the world, instead of the precious family time.

Getting over confident in our 2 year old's ability to sit still in a restaurant for long periods of time. He did so good at the other table service restaurants we decided to take our time at Coral Reef and order appetizers, the whole nine yards. By the time our entrees came we were well into nap time and DS was full melt down. Not even sea turtles could distract him. It would have been perfect if we stuck I our order ready when we sit down short and sweet attitude.

Going through the wrong security line at Orlando! We didn't know there were two and when we got try rough security we couldn't find our airline. We asked someone and they told us we had to leave security and Go through it again on the other side of the airport.

Luckily since we had already been through the long line and they let us use the employee entrance. Unfortunately the second time through they wouldn't let us take our sons juice box through so we had to buy more juice on the other side.

Loving all of this...

My biggest mistake is thinking my DH cares about all of my planning "nonsense" I drive him crazy with my planning and constant talk about Disney.

This is one of the reason's I am glad I joined the DIS.
My DBF, while happy we are going, would be going mad by now with all this planning and obsessing. He doesn't mind the occasional update, but the constant flow would overwhelm him!

Now I can just drive all of you nutz instead!

Saying in the moment "I want to do/buy/see that before we leave, remind me!"
That just doesn't work! This trip I'll carry that bag, get on that ride, or stop and smell the roses exactly when I (or DH) want to. We never seem to find the time later to "go back" to complete our list!

Remembering that little kids under 3 aren't the only ones who need a nap after day 2!

someone mentioned about not getting a balloon since they couldn't take it home
I don't know if this works with the Mickeyhead balloons but on a single balloon, take a straw & push it into the balloon where they add the helium (where they attach the string) then press the air out

then when you get home go to someplace that will refill balloons & have it filled back up

Never again will I go in August. It's my own fault, I took the bargain even though I'm not a hot weather gal. I blame no one but myself!
Ridiculously hot and a hurricane was skirting our area so it poured rain EVERY day of our vacation. Not just a cloud burst. ALL DAY. :scared1:
And I will never take two teenagers again and ask them where they want to eat and hope that they can pick one place and agree on it. Did I mentioned that they love to argue too?
I love Disney World. With all of my heart and we really enjoyed staying at POP a lot! Way more than I ever expected too because POR is our favourite. I would stay at Pop again in a heartbeat. Just not facing the pool party area! Music starts at 8am and ends around 11pm. When you're tired, hot and cranky, it's just irritating. Again, that's my fault for going in August when I should have known better. But hey, tired, hot and cranky in Disney World...meh, could be worse things!

Taking my folks! My wife swears Disney has asked that they never come back. They had gone about 10 years ago and hated it. Then when we planned our sons 16th birthday, they felt they needed to come along. Lets just say Disney is NOT the happiest place for everyone!

I have to add that my dad and I planned to surprise my mom for a Disney World trip for my daughter and I take my mom...and let's just say!!!!! Never again, well it is never as she passed away a few years ago. However, I rented a car, planned everything for her and around her and then she told everyone when we got home, that the NEXT time she goes to Disney she was going to SEE something!!!! Needless to say, I was furious!!! I took everything at a slower pace, did things I normally wouldn't do and added extras and she still got "mad" at me...my dad was upset with her as he paid for everything for her to go and then she came home and told him and many others what a horrible time she had:( I am sure the Disney people thought, good, stay away so that others can be happy:)

Over doing it the first two days. On our Honeymoon DH and I got up at 2 drove the 7 hours, did DTD, checked in got changed, went to MK for 3 hours, then did Artists Point, and back to MK for fireworks. Then the next day we made it to DHS for EMH, had ADRs for Coral Reed at 2, epcot for a little bit, then EMH at MK where we met up with my parents. Of this was also the middle of August so it was humid and nasty. We where DEAD by the 3rd day. Thankfully we now will have little ones to slow us down and enjoy things.
