Any MISTAKES made on past trips?

Ok now I'm worried.

Our trip is planned for me, my sister, my mom, and stepdad. My boyfriend (together 6 years, not like I just met him) was supposed to come but can't get the time off work. Please tell me I won't go crazy!

You're not alone in your worry! I am also very scared now :scared1: because I'm going on the next trip with only my parents, sister and brother to celebrate my Dad's 70th Birthday. No one wants to plan ANYTHING and I am really worried how it's going to go. My DH keeps telling me it will be something I will be grateful I did once my parents are gone. Right now it's hard to see that way....I'm looking forward to lots of wine (wine, wine, wine) and food at the festival.:drinking1

We just returned from 8 days with my parents 70 & 71....my biggest piece of advice is to suggest that you meet up with everyone on certain days - do NOT try to visit each attraction together. Dad could keep up but Mom could not. We rented a wheelchair for her, but it was difficult, as she does not use one at home. I don't think she liked the "lack of control" - having Dad push her in the chair. It was tough to get through the crowds and we didn't see half the attractions we do when we are just DD, DH, and I. As much as I am happy we had the opportunity to be together, it had its frustrating moments...

I tend to forget a lot of stuff on different trips, I need my mom to help (I'm 17), cause I usually over pack and forget the important things or I don't bring enough of something. But 2 years ago, when I told my mom I didn't need her help anymore, boy I was wrong, I forgot my toothbrush, toothpaste, didn't bring enough shirts, and forgot my pin lanyards. When we went, I saw a whole bunch of the monorail pins and I didn't have my lanyards to trade with  Ever since then, I pack things by myself, but when I'm done I have my mom check to make sure I have everything. :confused3

:offtopic: My gosh, Florida heat is killing me.

We have done this 2 yrs in a row now!!! We wake up and run to one park and stay from open to close and go non stop every single day. We really needed to take a day off mid week to just sleep in, hang by the pool, shop at Downtown Disney and then dinner. I always come back empty handed I feel, I never allow myself time to do any relaxation or shopping.

Never been to WDW without family (since being married!) and have always had a great time. First trip was my family (mom and dad, 2 sisters and their families) next trip was inlaws and 1 SIL. getting ready to go with other SIL and her family in a few months! Can't wait! ;)

Loving all of this...

My biggest mistake is thinking my DH cares about all of my planning "nonsense" I drive him crazy with my planning and constant talk about Disney.

He prefers to stay home while I take the kids with my mom...I prefer it that way too!!!

Do LOVE my DH, but sometimes absence...

Our biggest mistake was going with another family. We thought it'd be great because they had a son our son's age and a daughter our daughter's age and they had been before so they could help us out.

All they did was argue with each other (loudly, in line for rides and buses)...very embarrassing. We pretended we didn't know them more than once. All the wife wanted to do was watch parades and shows and got huffy when my daughter and I wanted to ride roller coasters with the boys. Tried to make us feel cheap for not buying every little thing our kids' hands touched in the gift shops. They literally spent twice what we did on the same vacation. We barely speak to these people now.

We are going in December with just us and our two kids. We will ride rides until our hearts are content and have the time of our lives. I can't wait.

Not planning 1 or 2 rest days just to enjoy the resort into our vacation! That and after 5 days each extra day is only 8 bucks per ticket per day so if you even think there is even 1 or 2 things you MAY want to see just spend the 8 bucks! Save souvenier shopping or the majority of for the last day or 2 of your trip and just have it shipped home. Worth the money in gold!! (unless of course you have only seen something in 1 place etc) Evening hours (extra magic or not) are the BEST time to get rides in!! The lines are less than half the wait of the afternoon!!

I will never drive there again. I drove down there last September with my family of 5. Me, DH, dd1 (6), DD2(3) and DS (at the time 18mo). Let's see....

On the drive down it poured through every single state we drove through due to a hurricane that had gone through the gulf. I mean POURED. I was a nervous wreck. Once at WDW, on our first day there, DD1 (on her birthday) got a stomach bug. It proceeded to domino it's way through our entire family as we drove our way back north. So yeah, we  our way up the east coast in various hotels. Oh, did I mention we discovered that my son gets carsick on top of everything else?! I also managed to get a speeding ticket in VA. Worst. Trip. Ever.

So, I will only fly from now on. It has forced to me to get over my gigantic fear of flying. Flying down in May.

Wow. That was a hefty bump considering this thread is from 2005!!!! How funny.

Well, I guess I will play too.

*Listening to other Disers against my better judgement and buying a pair of Sketchers Tone-ups two months before our 2011 Disney trip. That one resulted in a full blown Plantar Fascitis flare-up that had to be handled quickly so I could walk two months later!

*Letting my parents drag us all over the park for our first trip b/c they didn't know how to use fastpasses properly (course, with the new crack down, that point is moot. We will tour more low key from now on though, even with the strict fastpass times.)

*Fighting with my mom EVERY darn time we go to Animal Kingdom! Notice my pre-trip report title? I NEVER say non-Disney words, and there were a few choice ones uttered on the last trip.

Hmmm..TOOOO numerous to list...I'd crash Alex's new server! ;)

But, by far-our biggest "mistake" is taking WAY TOO MUCH LUGGAGE!!!

;)

I know what you mean. Much more happy when my dh stays home. He just goes fishing.

Never again will I pick my dining choices based on what others say!
We went in 2009 and loved everything we ate - our choices were our own, made after looking at menus.
Now, there is all this hype about those coveted ADRs, must eat at restaurants and posted dining reviews, and everyone's favorite snack or drink. << yes, we based our most recent decisions on the previous...What a disappointment!
Just because someone likes/dislikes something has no bearing on what I will like or, what my family will like.

Dont be afraid to take family and friends with you! Just dont make everyone do everything together. 1st trip with friends was awesome! But we talked about it alot before hand;they had an older son with no fear. I had 6 mo. baby and twins (5) who did not like big rides. Also, we were all early birds. We started out together, split up, met back at rental house for dinners. We split the cooking.
2nd trip with my brother. They are not early risers, dont like the same stuff we do. So, we did not go to the parks together, but met back up at house for dinners, which we took turns preparing. It was still a fantastic trip! Set up rules before hand, dont feel like you have to do everything or even anything together. My brother and I just enjoyed hanging out at the house and swimming together.
Good luck!

Not doing the necessary research the figure out that some restaurants at Disney do not take the dining plan...now I know!

:mic: Any other recent mistakes out there?

:worship: your experience
Just wanted to shout out to a fellow couponer!!!

People think I am crazy for starting my packing 2 months out. I have 7 people to pack for though, and I am constantly revising what is put in each suitcase. I always start with way too much, and by the time we leave, I have gotten it down to the bare necessities!
