Any members of the old Make up Clique still around?

My first attempt at using false lashes was an epic fail. I followed the instructions EXACTLY and also had researched on-line; all the information said to apply eye make-up first and then put them on. It seemed really counter-intuitive; not sure how the glue was supposed to adhere on top of moisturizer, foundation and shadow. Should I have ignored that and put them on my bare lids? Would self-adhesive lashes be easier? As I age I'm finding my lashes so much sparser than they used to be - I really want to master the use of this product. TIA for any tips.

I apply my own false lashes. I'm happy to tell you my process. The first thing is to trim your lashes to fit your eye. I personally trim them a bit shorter than my eyes because the lashes irritate my inner eyes.

The next thing is to figure out how long it takes for your glue to get tacky. I suggest spreading a thin line of glue along the edge of a toothpick then timing how long it takes for it to get tacky. I use Ardell clear glue and it takes a little over 2 minutes; maybe 2.5 minutes but not longer.

To apply the lashes, I use a flat head plier intended for jewelry making to place the lashes on my eye. This allows me to keep my eyes open without blocking my view. I personally grasp the lashes by the center and aim for the center of my lash line.

The lashes will stick out straight but your eyes are curved. I then use a pair of tweezers to grab the ends of the lashes and press them down into my lash line. Glue gets everywhere but it dries clear so you won't see it.

I do put the lashes on after my makeup is complete. I also use human hair lashes that I order through Amazon.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to pm me!

Thanks. I bought an Ardell kit that contained 2 pairs of lashes, the glue (white/clear) and a weird sort of tool to hold and place them. The instructions were specifically said to put on make-up first and let the glue set up for 30 seconds. I don't think I did anything incorrectly; just maybe that there's a better way than the "official" instructions. I'm going to give it another try with bare, dry, lids and using a little more glue and letting it set up for 2 minutes like you suggest. I may actually buy some of the black glue as several reviews I've seen claim that it holds better than the clear. I'm also thinking of maybe trying a set of self-adhesive lashes that may take the guess-work out of the glue part.

I've always wanted to try fake eyelashes, but I'm afraid they'll look too "fake" on my eyes or I'll have an un-gluing mishap in the middle of the day and I won't notice until it's too late! lol

I had to search to find this thead... hopefully some people still want to discuss make up :)

Checking in on the group! Anyone around?

I would love to find a lipstick product that is long wearing but doesn’t feel goopy. I have been wearing Berts Bees tinted chapstick and lip oil but I need something that has a little more color and looks finished, won’t transfer to stuff like cups and straws, and yet isn’t heavy.

A friend and I tried Revlon ColorStay Ultimate and I like how it lasts, and once it dried it was ok. Didn’t love it though.

Ideas of what else to try?

I used to love Colourpop's Ultra Matte liquid lipsticks. It doesn't budge an inch or transfer! But after a few months, the product starts to dry up. Super cheap, though-- $6 a bottle and shipping is only $2-3.

I go between colorpop but I love the Lancôme gloss they have out currently. It lasts better on me than colorpop

It seems that glosses are starting to come back into fashion, but pretty much every brand makes a liquid lipstick. They dry down completely matte and don’t transfer. The downside is that they can be really drying on the lips. The transfer proof dry down definitely has a price.

If you’re looking for low end pricing and have an Ulta near you that’ll be your best bet as they carry a lot of brands and you can return anything you don’t like. If you don’t have an Ulta then CVS also has a very easy return policy.

If you’re looking for more mid-range brands then Sephora is your best bet.

A PP mentioned Colourpop. Some of their products/shades are great and some aren’t. Most of their lip swatches aren’t true to color either so you’re taking a gamble.

If you have a bullet lipstick that you really like, setting it with translucent powder can help mattify it and make it transfer less, but it won’t be as stuck in place as a LL.
