Any luck with National ID's and Coupons codes

Years ago, I had a travel agent acquaintance book a rental car for us. She was a bit new to the profession. She got us a GREAT price. When we arrived to pick up the car, come to find out she used a travel agent code that was only good for travel agents & I was being asked if I was an agent and to produce ID. We explained we booked thru an agent, but I wasn't one. We had to fight tooth & nail to keep the price we were quoted by the agent, not the rental co. Spent way too long at the counter & it was a bad way to start vacation. I stay away from travel agent codes now if I can help it.

I have used Emerald Aisle several times and love it- but apply different codes/IDs, etc for each trip.

What the latest greatest? Anything beyond what Mousesavers offers?
I will most likely go with a Mid-size - my default and we are going for 5 days Thur-Mon at the end of May
I dont plan to use the travel agent code mentioned, since Im not a TA.
Any tips out there?

What about the original Visa code?

My own experience using the Carlson TA code was that the guy at the booth could not have cared less about what code or coupon we used. He didn't even look at the paperwork, just printed it out and raised the gate.

The only problem we had was that there were no 8 passenger vans when we arrived on the aisle, and we had to wait for one. (we specifically reserved the 8 passenger) When we returned the vehicle, they scanned the barcode and we were on our way.

Do be careful with National telling you you won't fit in the car you reserved. They were trying to do that to a family while we were waiting for our van. We ended up with the van they were trying to charge the other family an extra $300 for because they said they wouldn't fit in the 7 passenger which they had reserved. They fit fine, but the women was understandably upset at the attemted extorotion. Not a good way to start your vacation.

If they ask you if you still want the size car you reserved, say yes. Chances are they don't have that size available and are trying to get you to pay for an upgrade. If you stick to your guns, they will have to give you the larger car at the price you reserved. (I know that has been posted before, but this thread is getting long, and it bears repeating)

I'm thinking along the lines of sanibelover, if you join the emerald club (free thru mousesavers.com), and are driving the car out to the gate, are they really going to hassle you for TA ID? I kinda doubt it. My sis-in-law was a TA before the 4 kids came along, so maybe I could bring her ID along. Not sure if there is a pic on it or not, but we have the same last name. If there is a pic, I could say a family member who is a TA made the ressie. It doesn't seem like there sticklers about codes so much, when people are getting different answers after calling. 2 different people called and it was told to them the code could be used by anyone. It depends on who you get I guess. If I had to go to the counter, I probably wouldn't try it, but in the car, driving out, it might be worth a shot!!:goodvibes :flower3: :goodvibes

Plus Sanibelover used the carlson TA code w/ no problems.

There is a picture on the ID cards and they are only good for a year, they have to be renewed. So, not sure that would work out for you. I wouldn't worry about it though really.

Is this new code the one that is in question? I can't get the National site to work for me still, so can't see if it will bring a big savings for me or not.

The code I used was 8572957. Someone called Nat. and they were told it was a "travel solutions" code and they could use it. It differs from the Visa code 85729*8*7, but that doesn't give me that a great a rate, it might for your dates.

The Carlson code is 5760339, which is the next best one for me. But again it's a TA code. Sanibelover used it recently and had no problems tho.

I also used Sam's club code 5026004, which was good for me, but just not as good, if ya know what I mean!!

Thanks Bella for that explaination! The Carlson code is the one I needed to know about.

using a contract id -visa and coupon code-$30 off from national- both from mousesavers.com they do not appear to be offering product/rate codes anymore.
I got a mid size -I think (taurus, etc) for 5 days for $177 at the end of may.

I just joined the Emerald Club(free through mousesavers). Is your spouse always free for additional driver? Do I need to had them to the reservation confirmation?

I got a total of $165.33 for a 7 day Minivan rental 5/3-5/10 using contract ID 8572967 & the $30 ecoupon for a weekly rental NF1982JDD. Not sure if I'll need some member ID for this code since it seems to be a mystery code from another thread. But it is the best rate I've gotten for my upcoming trip.

Also, are you supposed to have a business to use the Emerald Club as say the Q-Silver program with Alamo? Just want to be sure since we don't own our business/ and almost always travel leisure/pleasure.

OK, since the last poster wrote that she used code 85729*6*7 (instead of 57 or 87), I tried out a few more of these codes at National ending in 67 and 77 and the rates are just as great as the 57 for me. 87 is the Visa which is not as good for me. I also tried ending it in 37 and 47 and it was still a pretty good rate, then 17 and 27, they said they were sold out at my location (Tampa). So, my question is are these just all variables of a TA code, because the one ending 87 is not, it is the Visa code. :confused3

What is code 8572967? That is the best rate I have seen for a minivan in a long long time.

I have actually learned more about it on the other thread "better than visa magic code". Some say it is a complimentary code (whatever that is), but maybe still thru a TA. The other thread discusses these "too good to be true" codes, so it's a good read.:thumbsup2

OK, just used the new *5* code and brought the $172.07 price down to $121.07!!!!! This is for an 8 day rental !!! :cool1:

Not sure if this is a new code on this thread or not, but just saw it on Mousesavers. I checked June 18-24th, but it is a 7 day rental based on the pick up and drop off times.

Used ND2119071Q code for $35 off and then these Contract IDs

5007125 248.39
7232219 281.82
5063773 198.84
5000304 251.13
5504966 251.13
3715444 281.82
NCRLESS 281.82
8572987 172.07

This last one made the biggest difference as you can see!!! So give that a try. The second lowest one is that TA code that many have had luck with.

The *5* code only brought our rental down $10 over the Carlson code we were currently using ... think we'll stick with the Carlson code for now as we've used it before and had no problems with it. Interestingly the Visa code increased our rental over $60 from our current code :confused3

Okay I finally finished reserving my Minivan for May 5 to May 15. :goodvibes After joining the Emerald Club and having the 50.00 fee waivered with a coupon from Mousesavers and using the coupon 8572957 which is a Visa Code cpn and NF1986JDD which is a 30.00 off cpn. The total for the 10 day rental period was 263.92. And the best part is that my DH also gets to drive the car without having to pay for an additional driver because of being an Emerald Club member,(one of the benefits for joining the club) so there is another 99.90 saved on this car rental. I am a happy camper. What does everyone think? Did I get a good deal?
