I'm a lap swimmer, too. That said, I must confess that most of my workouts lately have not been swimming. Our pool got so hot and so crowded with noodles that I kind of got away from it & just started doing other things. I'm feeling the need to get back in the pool again lately, though, even if I have to go indoors for a while. I really do prefer our outdoor pool because it is 25 meters so I get a good swim in each lap. The indoor pool is much shorter so it's more of push off & turn with a few strokes in between than a good swim.
Smwf71, I'd be interested in hearing about your masters team workout, too. I haven't swam competetively since college, and stopped teaching and coaching when I went back to school for my masters during the summers a few years later.
While I was swimming regularly outdoors I was doing 1000 or 1500 meters of lap swimming, depending on how ambitious I was feeling and how crowded the pool was. I usually split my laps between free & breast stroke so I'm using different muscles.
