just out of curiousity...

i am going to be in kansas city the weekend of sept 6 & 7. i'm taking DH to a chiefs game for his birthday! (he's a HUGE chiefs fan!!) and we're also spending the weekend with my sister who recently moved out that way...

i was just wondering if any other DISers would be at the game on sept 7...

Hopefully it's not going to be hot still. (105 today!)

Sorry, but that is the one weekend we are getting away. We are going to see Cirque du Soleil. Bummer!

enjoy cirque sonya!!

now that my sister is living in that area (she lives in lenexa) i'm sure there will be more chances for me to attend DIS meets there! even though it's an 8 hour drive from here (yucky!!)...it'll give me an excuse to see my sister more often! and i'm sure that once my DH has been to a chiefs game, it will coarse through his veins and he'll demand more...

if he had it his way, we'd be moving out that way! he loves it out there. i guess he's "dragging" us to garozza's (?) for dinner. he talks about this place all the time. is it really as good as he is making it out to be?

My daughter lives in Topeka, about 45 minutes from KC. Maybe someday we'll be there at the same time. I'd love to see you guys again. I go out pretty frequently. Have a great time at the Chiefs game, if you can. I am not a big football fan, so I just don't get the excitement. We went to a Royals game July 4th weekend and had a blast.

Sonya, enjoy Cirque. We're seeing it in WDW on 9/10. I am so excited.

i'm not really a big sports fan, but i don't mind football. i love watching him while he's watching a chiefs game on tv. he gets so excited and i think it's funny! i'm just excited that i am the one who gets to finally take him to a real game. it's a memory that he and i will have together...:)

they've all decided that we are going to tailgate before the game. matthew is a wonderful cook and loves loves loves his BBQ! he takes it very seriously! he's already trying to decide what he's going to make. i've been to one football game (NFL) and that was the indianapolis colts last year. there was tailgating, but he said it wasn't nearly as impressive as tailgating before a chiefs game! i think he's done tailgating there before, but never went in for the game...

enjoy your upcoming trip tc!! i'm very jealous!!!

I've never tried Grozzos (or however you spell it). I hear it's very good though.

I have eaten at Garozzo's, although it's been several years. There are several locations in town. The food is really good there, so I think you will enjoy it.:)

The tailgating at Arrowhead isn't quite like tailgating anywhere else. Even the national sports commentators talk about the tailgating here. We used to have seaon tickets and the games are a lot of fun. Sometimes I miss going to the games, but when its really hot or cold, I don't mind watching from my living room! Hopefully it won't be too hot while you are here. We have been having 100+ degree days this week.

my sister has been complaining all about the 100+ temps there!! she said it's barely been below 100 since she moved there!

do any KC'ers know of any place to get Chiefs appearal for a reasonable cost?

You might want to try KC area Marshalls for reasonably priced nice Chiefs merchandise. The Marshalls here in the Twin Cities area currently have A LOT of Vikings t-shirts, sweatshirts, polo shirts, jerseys, etc...

My brother, nephew and my DS12 and DS8 were in KC last Friday/Saturday to watch our Twins play the Royals and we had a lot of fun. I ALMOST felt bad that the Twins won both the games we attended. The locals all treated us well and the Royals are such a great story this year!

I'd love to try to make a KC meet sometime if you're up for it:D

Well I am only 2 hours east of KC and we get up there on a semi-regular basis anyway so depending on when and where I could be up for a KC meet in the future. :)

As far as Chiefs apparel goes, basically any store that sells clothes will have Chiefs merchandise, including Walmart and Target. There aren't too many Marshall's here, but I think there are a couple over in the Lenexa/Overland Park area. I bought most of my stuff at JC Penney.

We are also 2 hours from KC and try to make it to at least one Royals game each year.... especially now that Ken Harvey is a regular!

I would definitely be up for a DIS meet!

sounds like some people are interested in a potential KC DIS meet! i'm not sure when i could get back out there yet this year...but as i said, if the date is right, i'd be more than willing to make the trek! any excuse to see my sister and meet some DISers!!

IT would be really fun to have a meet, I didn't realise that there were so many near here!
I think there is a Marshalls on Metcalf, just north of 95th street. But I think you could go to a mall and find them or a Walmart or Target. They are all over.
And if you BBQ, don't forget the sauce, try Gates or Zarda or even KC masterpiece.

Having spent all of two days in KC I consider myself an authority on shopping in the area;) On the way to our hotel I did go by a Marshalls! We were west on 70 to 291. We went north on 291 and if you take the first exit from 291 and go east there is a mall with a Marshalls a couple blocks away.

Gates is DH's favorite!! he was tickled to no end awhile back cuz our local supertarget sold gates bbq sauce in a bottle. but they quit selling it for some reason...so i think that he will certainly be bringing back a bottle or two. :)

As a lifelong (28 years) KC resident, I would be glad to assist with any KC area questions.

First, just FYI.... Garozzos is currently closed. There was a fire above their restaurant about a week ago - and there was extensive damage to the building. Actually - it's the original location - I think they have another location in Overland Park - but not positive on that.

Today is the first day in the last week that the temperature has dropped below 100 (it was only 96 today). So.... be prepared for a HOT game at Arrowhead.

If you want BBQ definately go to Gates or Arthur Bryants. Whenever important folks (Presidents, Vice-Presidents, Celebrities) come to town - they usually go to one of those two BBQ restaurants.

There is a Marshalls on I-70 in Independence. If you are coming from Indiana, I would assume that you will come I-70 - so look for the "Noland Road" exit. You will see the strip center with the Marshalls from the highway - so it will be easy to get there.

As far as "cheap" Chiefs apparel. Most local Wal-Marts have Chiefs/Royals apparel. You will probably find it there priced lower than most other places. Near the stadium (on 40 Highway and the Blue Ridge Cutoff) there used to be a little gas station that would sell a bunch of merchandise on game day. It was the "cheap" stuff ($10 shirts - $20 sweatshirts), and the quality was usually lower. They are probably still there if you want some game-day items to wear. Other than that - go to Wal-Mart. Since the Royals are doing so good, and the Chiefs are looking promising... you probably won't find too many sales on the merchandise.

If you have any questions about KC, feel free to ask. Like I said... I'm a lifelong resident, and I work for the KC Police Department - so I should be able to help you out.

thank you for the reply CWIPPERMAN! my dh lived out there for a few years before he and i got together. he loves it out there and would move us out there in a heartbeat if i would let him. while i'm not opposed to that in the future, i don't want to leave indiana just yet. :)

i think i saw on the garozzo's website that there are 3 locations in the area. we're hoping to sneak into one. my sister lives near the overland park location i believe.

thanks for the info on where to find chiefs stuff. DH kind of wants a shirt or something to wear, but i just don't want to spend $50 on a t-shirt! :)
